IYO, What Are Your 5 Keys To Winning 8 Games?

1. Win the ones we are supposed to -- montana, cinci, buffalo, middle tn, vandy, kentucky. That's 6 wins and bowl eligible just for winning patsy games. We lose one of these games and there's no way we make it to 8 wins.

2. Beat Arkansas on the road.

3. Beat georgia at home.

4. 3rd down conversions.

5. Prayer.

given where I live, Im praying we beat the hogs

Count the number of defensive players on the field with the clock running out...

1) Recovering from a horrific and surprizing loss
2) Ability to come from behind and score in the 4th quarter
3) Staying grounded and not getting over confident when we pummel an inferior opponent
4) Being able to withstand the boos and jeers after the 3rd thrown pick of a game
5) Not reading VN during the season. . .

For me:

1) Maurice Couch is good enough to start from day one. I just do not have the faith that Hughes will produce in the manner that his talent should. I do expect Walls to be a player and I think Ayres will surprise us all.

2) A consistent running game. This will occur as a direct result of vastly improved run blocking by the O-Line and the emergence of a dynamic running back. IMO, Lane, Smith, or Neal will have to step in because I do not believe that Poole has the ability. I think that TP is a very average SEC back, but his ability to hold on to the ball shouldnt be discounted. I think that I read where he has never fumbled. I honestly value TP as a steady, dependable player, but I do not think he is the dynamic answer a pro style offense needs in the SEC. He left a lot of yards on the field last year.

3) One of the young WRs becomes the go-to guy when we have to have the yards, be it 3rd or 4th down. I actually think DR will be that guy, but I dont discount ZR filling that role. As much as I am loath to mention him, GJ did this for the Vols quite a bit when he wasnt injured. I believe that Stocker will be greatly missed in this area, but Im not sold on MR as a clutch receiver. I think MR has good hands, but can he block well enough to be on the field in those situations?

4) Better decision making by Bray. He cannot force the ball in to coverage as he often did last year. Nor can he simply throw it up there as much. He needs to improve in managing the game and must cut down his interceptions. The kid is a player, but I believe he muct grow dramatically as a field general for the Vols to reach 8 games this year.

5) I think some LBs must emerge. Possibly the weakest position on our defense. I do believe that we have some unproven ability there outside of Lathers and I think Johnson can contribute from day one. I also look for Probst to grow into an All SEC LB by the time is eligibility is finished.

What say you?

I would say Pretty accurate, but why are you so frustrated by GJ ?

1. The O line has to play to their talent level and not their age.
2. Secondary same as the O line has to play to their talent level and not their age.
3. Finding a reliable tight end who is willing to be a contributor in the running and passing
game. Also is a clutch 3rd down TE.
4. Just do something on special teams. We have not been a threat on special teams in
years. Return a kick, a punt, block a punt it don't matter JUST DO SOMETHING!!
5. Limit the turnovers through strong Qb play. Bray has more work to do mentally than anything.

1. Running Game (100 yd rusher and 50 yd rusher to take pressure off Bray)
2. O-Line Domination (Run game and Passing game is dependant)
3. D-Line Emergence (Slow down oppnents run/stop opponent oline from reaching second level of our D)
4. Depth (not having fresh legs in the 4q is what beat us in several games last season eg FLA, LSU, USCe etc)
5. Sustained offensive drives which will follow #1 and #2 followed by points (time off the clock doesnt help if you cant score)

Here are mine, I came up with them all by myself :whistling:

1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.
2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.
3. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.
4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.
5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.
6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.
7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

No offense to CDD, but I think you'd be a coach worth naming a stadium after.

1. Beat against Vandy and Kentucky.
2. Schedule a plate full of 1AA teams and MEAC and Sun Belt patsies.
3. Hope and pray we can go 2-4 against anybody who is actually decent at football.

1. Holding opponents to an average under a 100 yards rushing a game.
2. Convert on 3rd and short better than last year. The offense has to learn how to sustain drives to keep the defense off the field.
3. Consistently run the ball more with a running back that is making tacklers miss or bulldozing them over. They don't need to alternate backs either when one has some momentum... That drove me crazy last year.
4. Make sure you have 11 players on the field... Not 13 or 10.
5. Find a consistent punt returner that doesn't muff the ball.

1. Either establish a power run or a great passing game to open the other up
2. Just expect to line up and play an extra quarter after the game clock hits "0:00" (extra conditioning)
3. Find a punt returner
4. Make critical extra points and field goals
5. Don't go to bar Knoxville

Bray is going to need a few more tattoos if we're going to do that well.

That's the Mike Hamilton game plan anyway.

1)Bray avoids the sophomore slump.
2)Improved running game
3) Improved D-line play
4)Improved Linebacker play
5) Find a way to not have 12 guys on the field when time expires.

Honorable mention- Find a slot receiver for Bray, they can't just chuck it deep all the time.

Find a TE that can give you a few positive plays a game.
