So to be clear, 24 hours ago OP thought he should be fired now due to 1 game nlot only should we keep him but they should give him an extension. Got it, sounds reasonable to me

I bet he leaves after this year. He has taking a lot a **** from the fan base and if he does make it to the second round I bet some teams will start knocking at his door. I'd leave if I was him

Especially considering how much Martin is being paid. I heard on radio today that Martin is only the 11th highest paid coach in SEC. People thought Hart was going to have to decide whether to fire Martin or keep him. He may end up having to decide if he wants to pay him enough to stay.

I posted this in another thread.

In his 3 years he has the 3rd highest winning percentage in the conference, yet is paid 11th most. When you look at what Grant and Anderson are making, and what they've done compared to Zo now, he's got every right to want a serious raise.

What's sad is these fools on here will be like good redince when he leaves. **** if they thought this was medocracy I can't wait until we see what the coach after Martin does here. I gaurentee you he won't win 60 games his first three years

Not to mention the program is headed in a positive direction. Good kids willing to play hard for their coach. We, myself included, tend to judge coaches on OUR expectations, not realistic expectations. We got spoiled early with CBP due to wins but he and UT have paid a big price. Again, JMO.

Winning solves all problems. Not gonna lie, I wanted Pearl back and will always love him, however this late season surge has made me believe in Cuonzo. He is a damn fighter.

I'm not a Martin supporter, but the issue of salary is a valid one. According to a website I found, UT's average attendance in basketball this season was 15,475, 2nd highest in the league after Kentucky and 5000 higher than the SEC average. Attendance at TBA was down 7% from last year, however attendance was lower for 7 of the 14 SEC teams compared to last year, and was the lowest since 1984-85.
We have the arena and the fan base. So if Martin is retained, he should be paid what he is worth.

Just being a nice guy or a class act won't get this program to where it's capable of being.

No doubt Zo's a nice guy. He proved that to me long ago. That's great and all, but he's also proven to me he makes a lot of bone-headed decisions during games and often looks confused or nervous at the same time.

Maybe he's too nice. I can't remember ever seeing him get really fired up and angry at a ref for a questionable call or even really angry at a player for screwing up somehow. Has he ever even been T'd up? Sometimes it's a good thing to get in the ref's ear or to try to light a fire under a certain player or player's.

I bet his pre-game motivational speeches aren't very exciting either lol. There are lots of coaches out there who are considered nice guys as well as really good coaches. Lots. Zo is definitely one of those, but not so much on the really good coach part. JMO

I guarantee I wont say good redince lol if he leaves.........its a tourney driven sport.....if u dont make the tourney its not a great season...

Zo will keep proving day by day whether or not he can get the job done but my gosh it gets weird around here based on a single win or loss.

You get paid based off previous experience and what u have proven u can do.....Until this yr almost every coach had proven more than Zo in their history.

For me, I think CCM deserves a 4th year after last night. If he can make it to the sweet 16, then he has earned an extension IMO.

If I was the AD I would give him a raise to 1,800-2 million and extend him 3 yrs but keep his buyout the same in case I had to fire him....he represents the program well.....decent to good coach.....I would be worried about his recruiting which is why I would keep the buyout reasonable.

Man you guys are fickle. Look, much of the criticism CCM has taken is well-deserved. It's OK to stand by your criticism of him (unless you flat-out stoned him).
