I've changed my mind about

That's wonderful. Change your mind. I haven't.
I've said before that Zo seems like a good person and a good man. Top-tier basketball coach...NO.
I want Zo to win because that means the Vols win, simple as that, and if you're comfortable with the team now, then just wait. You won't be later.:eek:hmy:
GO VOLS!

I find it amusing how liberals bait and switch when someone brings up a legitimate point. It's so funny.

Lolololololololol

Liberal??? First, if you think I'm a liberal, then it's only further proof as to how clueless you really are, as if further proof were needed. I'm about as conservative as they came. I have serious doubts that you know the difference, but that fact doesn't fit your agenda, so you just start slinging mud to see what sticks.

Second, my post was an obvious joke meant to playfully point out the errors in his numbers. Hence, the government math comment that obviously flew over your head.

Third, I'm REALLY, REALLY sorry the object of your affection isn't returning for you to slobber all over, though I doubt it stops you from your usual gushing. Your obsession with him is borderline unhealthy. I know your hatred for me stems from the fact that I unapologetically don't carry water for a (now) rival coach, but try your best to deal with it.

Lastly, please put me on ignore. PLEASE! Nothing would thrill my heart more than for you to never have to read my "liberal" spew anymore.

Your last paragraph says it all. If I was the AD, I would fire Martin give Howland a $20M contract and call it day. But I have no control or backdoor idea on UT athletics.

If we are going to just pay $2M a year, you might as well keep the guy who's had a top four SEC program and averages 20 wins a year. The probability of you getting better than that for $2M a year is highly doubtful.

You nailed it. If the AD isn't going to pony up significant dollars for a major, proven upgrade, then for the money he's willing to spend, he's getting a pretty good deal with Cuonzo Martin. Alas, as someone else put it recently, the Tennessee AD doesn't see coaches as investments (initially), but rather as costs. Once they prove to be very good (Fulmer & Pearl), then we pay them near what they're worth while still pandering to their "loyalty" to save a few bucks.

CCM. I have been critical of CCM and the style of play exhibited by this team but I have changed my mind. Hearing the Iowa coach speak about the class that CCM and this team showed after the game convinced me CCM is the right man for the job. I say let's give him some time to grow as a coach and the best players in the country will want to play for him. He constantly talks about representing TN is a positive light. No discipline problems since he has been here. The man is a class act with incredible character. He will recruit players with character. It's only a matter of time before he will be extremely successful. You can't do things the right way and not get good results. He has my support and he now deserves an extension. JMO!

I too have not been a big CCM fan. You have said it very well above. I too have changed my opinion about him. I would like to see a little more emotion during the game and some "ref" chewing once in a while, but I guess thats his style so be it. Basketball is a game, and he's been through things which put that in perspective. Clear to me he is teaching these young men how to succeed in life, not just BB. Hats off to CCM and this team. They represent UT well.

Now go VOLS I have your picked to beat UMASS and DUKE.

If only Don DeVoe got to play a team that just lost 5 of 6 games and was beaten by Northwestern in their last game. Hell, contract for life to Martin for winning the play in game.
It seems to me that Devoe ran into the #1 seed 3 years in a row. We got knocked out by Virginia with Ralph Sampson, Jeff Lamp, and another Jeff 2 years in a row, and then Louisville the next year.

That's just a dumb post, regardless of next years outcome his fate would've been determined?

It's dumb to think otherwise. If he has this team on the bubble, his most experienced and talented tea to date, next year will likely be worse. He would not survive 4 straight years without a tournament birth. To think otherwise is literally stupid.

I typically don't use words like "stupid" and "dumb" in regards to other post/posters but since you did I said what the heck.

If what you're saying is that the more talented team always has the better season...

Then yes, that's stupid.

He's not made the tournament with less talent/experience, see years one and two, squeaks in this year, what makes you think he'll do better with less next year? Stupidity is when you ignore history.

This whole bracket has opened up for the Vols. We are far more talented than anyone up until Michigann in the Sweet 16. Let's hope we can take advantage. UMass is ripe for the picking today.

If the Vols beat UMass and Mercer, I'm cautiously in. For the time being. Final Four? I'm in for life. I agree with OP that Zo is a classy dude. He is a cancer survivor, which says a lot about him. I know what it means to survive cancer; my wife is in the process of beating renal cancer with new, experimental trial drugs in Nashville.

I jinxed it talking about the hypothetical sweet 16 if mercer were to win lol

Stupidity is thinking The University of Tennessee is the training ground for coaches.

It isn't. You're right. Or it shouldn't be. We found ourselves in a bad spot when we had to fire Pearl. We had an unresolved NCAA investigation over our head, an AD in flux, and a tough act to follow. People weren't lining up at the door for the job, and certainly not with our budget.

We got what we got, and we have invested three years into him now, and we are potentially beginning to see a return on that investment. He has had to learn on the job, and that's not really his fault. He was green before he got here.

A job like Tennessee shouldn't be a farm system for underdeveloped coaches, but in our situation at the time, we took what was available, and let him learn. For better or worse. I hope it was worth it, as we may be watching a young coach grow up before us.

I don't disagree with any of that. I've learned not to get excited when this team does well or too depressed when they look like terrible. The jury's still out IMO. We've been extremely lucky with our parings so far. If this tun continues it will count for something with me. Next year however will show me what I need to know

It's not, and I never said it was. I infact have admitted in the past that you could be critical about that aspect of the hire.

However, that is the hand we were dealt. A young mid major coach, that was learning. I would much rather wait and see what I have, than fire the guy after year 2 when all he has done is improve. Who the hell knows, we may make the elite 8 this year, and then you've got Martin being called one of the best young coaches in the game.

Much better said than my post lol.

Basically, we may have a young coach who's done nothing but improved and gotten a team to the sweet 16? How many better options, within our budget, are actually out there?

Sorry to hear that about your wife, dude.

Have a couple of friends dealing with cancer right now...puts a lot of things into perspective.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family, and hope your wife gets well soon!
