IU Coaching Position....

Find out what Rick Barnes and Bill Self are making, then pay Pearl about $200K less than the average of those two. If anyone wants to offer him more than that, Hamilton should tell him he's free to go.
Last year, Self and Barnes made $1.6M and $1.8M, respectively. Roy Williams made $1.4M.

Pearl makes $1.3M right now, with a guaranteed increase to $1.4M for the 2008-09 season. I cannot see Pearl getting more than $200K on top of that without at least an appearance in the Final Four or National Championship game.

Look at the coaches UT has had before they found a winner: Houston, Green, Peterson. I would like to see some stability in the BB program.

I will completely agree with you on that point. He was also the architect behind Green's teams that spent some time in the Top 5.

Mhm. That's why he doesn't get listed among the terrible coaches that have saturated the UT Mens basketball team over the past 20+ years.

Maybe because they've won 5 and were in the Final as recently as 2002.

If not for the trouble they're facing, then I would agree.. but since there are some dark clouds on the horizon, then I don't.

My feeling is Pearl isn't going anywhere after the season.

He's been very candid with the media that he thinks coaches don't do a good enough job honoring their contracts with schools.
I also doubt he will leave TN before Jacqui and Steven graduate. If they follow him, that'd be 3 colleges for Jacqui (if she doesn't finish up this year) and remember: Steven's already used his redshirt :eek:lol:.

That being said, I REALLY hope he doesn't leave. But I do think it's in both his and the program's best interest to stay.

Like I said previously, IU cannot compete with UT if it's purely about money.

Those who say Pearl will sign a deal before speaking with IU are delusional. Pearl will talk to IU, if only to inflate the offer price.

If IU offers him a deal within a fair ballpark number - that's where it could get interesting.

Colin Cowherd says Pearl should stay at UT.....

Sometimes he makes me shake my head and laugh at some of the stuff he pipes off with but by and large I think he's right more than wrong. He is saying Pearl needs to stay at Tennessee and not go to Indiana that its just a lateral move and Pearl has a good thing going at UT. He made some good points in that segment about Pearl staying at UT and not pursuing the IU job.

Pearl's showmanship makes me think he is custom made for the NBA. That's the horizon I'd be scanning were I concerned about coach poachers.

he also said that Pearl was behind Phil Fulmer, Pat Summit, and whoever the Offensive Coordinator for the football team was.

I said he's right more than he's wrong - I think in the grand scheme of pecking order at UT he is behind Fulmer and Summit. He's not behind the OC - he's not far behind Fulmer anymore and we all know that. I just think Cowherd made a good point about the reasons Pearl should stay at UT over going to IU. He really had those IU fans upset by the end of that second segment.

He's no more behind Pat Summit than he is Todd Raleigh. The overwhelming majority of UT's fan base wouldn't care one bit if the women's basketball program were discontinued tomorrow.

Pearl is #1 on campus

Men's BB is #2, soon to be #1b

The only way football can take over at this point is to win a national championship, and while I'm always hopeful for that, I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Moeny wise, football will still be tops though... I'm talking in terms of fan excitement.

I doubt that very seriously..7 National titles is 7 national titles no matter how you cut it...They have done more good for the school and gotten it in the spotlight on many occasions when nobody even knew UT had basketball...Period...Respect should be shown

While basketball season might be more exciting for those who are currently students at UT, the vast majority of the alumni and fan base will always pick UT football over UT basketball.

I think Pearl has gotten UT into the spotlight more than Pat.
