It's time

I don't understand the people that say there aren't any good coaches available. There are tons of great coaches Tennessee could get.

Chip Kelly
Dan Mullen
Art Briles
Brent Venables
PJ Fleck

I have been saying it for years. Greg Roman. He would come here. He is currently unemployed, got the 49ers to the Super Bowl. Was the scapegoat for Rex Ryan:

Overall, Roman's offense has ranked eighth in yards per play since the beginning of the 2015 season, while Ryan's defense sits at 25th in yards per play over the same period.

That is with Bills.

bad secondary and poor oline killed us. and thats all i got to say about that. because stone cold said so.....

There are plenty of good coaches out there available and willing to take this job, especially as stacked as this roster currently is. That is why Shoop came here, a stacked defense. Trouble is, he didn't know what to do with it and couldn't make adjustments when injuries occurred.

Anthony Lynn took over for Roman and I feel Lynn would be a diamond in the rough as a head coach, maybe at UT. Roman was made to be a scapegoat as you stated. In that case it's all about the "system" both these coaches are running that would elevate the UT program IMO. These jokers on this site keep saying "who would we hire?" assuring us that they don't keep up with what's going on in the coaching world. There's plenty more good coaches out there and not "high-profile".

Shoop isn't the problem. You'll see when he leaves.

Exactly. We keep wanting these coaches who are retreads or unproven. NFL coaches aren't untouchable.

You don't get it, whoever we hire will be an improvement over Butch.

OK when making a football coach change, these are the people we don't need to listen to. Including those who say things like, "I know ND sucks but look at BK's body of work." Hello!!! Then what grounds are you firing Butch on?

I can't support Butch. I am not going to scream fire him, but I can't make any arguments for him either. I said let the season play out. It has, barring a bowl game win or loss that doesn't make too much of a difference to me as to my opinion of Butch Jones' and staff's performance this year.

The reality is we would be crazy to fire him with 3 years left on his contract. MAYBE it wouldn't be if we found a homerun hire. But even then, we would be so in the hole with Butch that we probably would not be able to afford the new hire. And if we tried to, we better hope that works because we certainly can't afford to go in the hole with Butch only to hire some big name who also ends up a bust. Our program would be devastated like never before.

Smartest thing to do is stay put and just see what happens. If our team looks worse, but our financial situation looks better, then we at least will have more buying power--and proven/available coaches on the market. I think coaches will be more likely to come here then as well, because we stuck with our coach.

It also gives our coach the opportunity to prove he can get over the 8-4 hump. I do hope he changes the way he approaches the media and demonstrates better ownership and proof of introspect. The way he is talking to the media right now is a bit ridiculous and makes you wonder about his grounds on which he has to expect his team to accept constructive criticism if he can't own his mistakes and shortcomings. If I am a kid, I am noticing that.

Butch needs to change his tone and change it fast or he will continue to lose his fans, media and worse--his players. I know what he meant when he said we are champions of life. I won't scoff at that. But wrong answer Butch. And to answer his question, YES HE HAS mentioned SEC Championships and National Championships and it began as soon as he got here. We miss our first chance and it can't be a part of the conversation any longer? That is where all he deserves to be commended for with his off the field success begins to become unraveled.

Own your 5#!+ Butch! Fact is, he promised better and we came up short this year. He needs to find a better way to accept that fact as we have to as fans and publicly own it and make us believe he will NOT accept this as our standard and will get better. I do think he needs to make less coaching decisions down the stretch. Not fielding the football at the end of the SC game and going for it on 4-4 last night is inexcusable. Noone in the country agrees with Butch. Analysts in ESPN were unanimously dumbfounded along with everyone else in the nation.

I hope Butch can get his head screwed on straight. Have a Kumbaya with his players, take some yoga, figure out a good way to approach the situation and give it a good go over the next 3 years. As of next year, he is still playing with three top ten recruiting classes and if he can hold this other class together, maybe 4.

Good post, Vegas, but...

(1) I would not be surprised to see this recruiting class drop in the ratings.
(2) Jones is who he is. A zebra cannot change it's stripes. What we see is what we got.
(3) Odds are, Blackburn already has a "to do" list ready for when/if he gets the AD job. My guess would be that "Head Coaching Candidates" is very near the top.

Lyle had his chance(s). He's all hat, and no cattle. Exactly what UC fans told us he was. At some point, you just have to accept reality.

Go Vols.

One thing I'm tired of hearing is let's not fire Butch because of the financial situation (some think UT is broke). They get $30 million a year in TV revenue and won't to spend $106 million in Neyland renovations. UT isn't broke! Fire this used car salesman of a coach now! If you keep him and renovate the stadium will look pretty but there will be lots of empty seats.

It's time...to change the name of this board to "Complete Idiots".

We are a heck of a lot better than end of Fulmer, Kiffin, and Dooley. Facts are we are getting better and CBJ is the leading factor in that improvement. UT will never be Bama. Their fans are dedicated, UT fans are fickle as heck. It's time...folks STFU and support the coaches and team to heal up, recruit, and get better for 2017.

1. We're even at this time with last year with a high probability of losing our Bowl game making for a worse season than last year, or winning the bowl and staying even. No improvement or progress IMO.
2. I'll agree in part. No, we'll never be Bama; don't want to be. I'd rather beat Bama. It's easy to have dedicated fans when you are winners day in and out. I remember some time ago when all the Bama flags, shirts, plates, and caps all but disappeared when they weren't world beaters and all they would brag or talk about was Bear and the gazillion Championships or take solace in the few games the VOLS lost. I still wear my orange and did through the Dooley years so I guess I am fickle.
3. I'm ALL in for the team healing and getting better for next season, and getting some good recruits. As far as supporting the coaches; when they produce something other than the regression, head scratching confusion with play calling, BS clichés, start owning their failures and quit calling out fans and media for those failures, I'll be ready to give my support again.
Oh, and you STFU!:hi:
