This is the question I'm waiting on a answer for, I'm all for getting rid of this so called football staff but we cannot replace him with any better at this point. No one with any sense wants to come here to be praised 1-2 years and then wanted fired the next 2 cause they don't live up to our expectations. And just to be clear, I'm as pissed as any rite now and would love to see them packed and shipped out but we would just regress IMO and it would be even worse than it already is.

I don't understand the people that say there aren't any good coaches available. There are tons of great coaches Tennessee could get.

Briles would obviously be an outstanding hire but I don't believe that UTK is committed enough to football to feal with the temporary media blowback that move would engender. I could see Auburn hiring him if they fired Malzahn or maybe Orgeron will hire him as OC. I do think Charlie Strong would succeed here because of several differences between us an Texas but you'd need an administrator who could accept the second guessing that would accompany replacing a mediocre coach with a losing coach.

I don't want Dave Hart making this decision. OTOH recruiting is not going very well this cycle and Butch's most loyal players are headed out the door. If we stay the course I won't be surprised with a losing season in 2017 followed by an abysmal 2018 signing day. It may be that we cannot afford to wait a year.

If they went that way they should hire Petrino with the best Defensive coordinator that money can buy. Yes he lost to UK but I still think he is a top 5-10 coach.

The coach and the team are two different entities. We can criticize the coach and still support the team.

I literally cannot believe how many supposedly thinking individuals buy into the crap this con-man spreads. The coach is not sacrosanct. He's the one that ultimately gets all the credit, and the blame. It's why he makes the big bucks. And keep in mind, he'd leave and go on to the next job without a moment's hesitation for a bigger paycheck. So....why the loyalty to the coach and not the team? Don't they deserve better?

lots of butch lovers are no showing today. i told all the negavols and pumpers to wait and see. its pretty obvious that if your coach is in year 4 and the fans still have to wait and see, its most likely not going to end well. i don't understand the defense, yes we have injuries in the middle, but most of the players are mid to upper classmen. also dobbs throwing 1 yard outs on 3rd down is something ill never understand. and not kicking a field goal and saving some time in case you get the onside kick, also not going for a hailmary vs uscjr, we have the best wr in the nation for hailmarys .

No thank you, I've been a fan of this team since 1968 and supporting them with my dollars for 27 yrs. There have been good times and there have been bad times, but; I remain a fan of the team. Realizing that the coaching staff sucks doesn't negate all those past years or my dedication for the future. :the_finger:

Maybe not, we wouldn't have to get educated during pressers and hear the endless/tiring BS clichés.
Seriously, it's better to have back to back 8-4 regular seasons than 5-7. The problem as I see it is this staff will, or has started the other direction. :sad:

He's had his "time". Last year's Okl. & Fla. games shows he's simply out of his league. This year just reaffirms it. This team has gotten worse, not better. And that's with all the returning talent and multiple years of good recruits. Injuries? It's his job to coach the 2nd string up as well. The defense is horrible and that was his hire. He's nothing more than a mediocre coach. We'll be 7-5, 8-4 and maybe 9-3 on a good year with him as our coach. People say if we fire him it will set us back 4-5 years. Not if you hire the right person and he brings in good assistant coaches, which obviously Butch hasn't done. We are never a top ten team with him at the helm.

But then you run the risk of lookin like an a** when you get blasted by 30 pts. I'm just sayin less selling and more proving how good a coach you are through your production on the field.

Guess what else? Unless we get healthy at the DT position, the bowl game could also very well be a loss. We will have to win a shoot out to get the W.

I've said it and said it, the DT attrition has doomed our season. No defense, I mean absolutely no defense, can be good if it's not strong ( talented ) up the middle. There is nothing Shoop can do to fix it. It's not the X's and O's it's the lack of Jimmy's and Joe's.

I'm just curious what your excuse was when we had a healthy team and an FCS team took us to OT?
