It's Time To Get A Real Coach

Would that it were so simple. One has to be concerned that the competitive drive of many of the current players has really diminished. To recover, a new coach may have to be an absolute terror. Would we hire/accept a coach who barely tolerates the fan base, despises the media, and turns the air blue on the sideline (like Geno)? Or, perhaps one that can coach up a storm, recruit well, but is seriously, ethically challenged (Calipari).

Somewhat to our detriment, Pat brought all of the good qualities while minimizing the bad. That's a standard that will be hard, maybe impossible, to fully replace.

I think there a many good coaches out there--and more than many who would have gotten a lot more out of this roster. And I don't think the Lady Vols need to go for a "big name" either. Take (in my neck of the woods) Scott Rueck at Oregon State. He took over a losing program with very few scholarship players and even had to set up tryouts on campus to fill the roster during his first year. 5 years later they are in the Final 4, and this year just won a second consecutive Pac12 regular season championship.

His background when he was hired? A national championship at a Division 2 (maybe 3) school near Portland. Tennessee will always be able to attract talented recruits; match that with someone who has been able to do more with less somewhere else and I think the Program would once again thrive.

Looks like Mr Currie might have to make a change ! I for one certainly hope that's the case.

As much as I want Holly gone they will not touch her in fear of angering the majority of the folks at the game today. While they should fire her my fear is this tragedy will continue for 1-2 more years at least.

The buck stops with the coach. It always stops with the coach. That is why coaches get sacked and not players.

These posts unfortunately won't change the fact that she's not going anywhere for the time being. Even if they lose in the first round of the NCAAT, the bar has been set so low that she Holly could probably keep her job if she just made it to the S16 next season, which would be hard not to do with the incoming talent, provided MR comes back and even more so if DD joins her.

DD and MR should declare and go to WNBA. Even if they come back what is going to change? You get a bunch of freshman that are supposed to be really good. Problem is you still have the same coaches.

In UT terms, Holly is the Phil Fulmer (in his declining years) of women's basketball coaches.
Without the national championship!

I've been saying that for weeks now. I don't see any incentive for them to stay. Holly is not a good enough coach to make them legitimate NC contenders next season, so what's the point of sticking around?

Definitely time to replace Holly! She didn't have this team ready after beating Mississippi State by 18 points! Lady Vols will get a #7 seed at best in WNCAA but maybe #8 or #9. They might win 1st round but won't make sweet 16.

Hire Sydney Smallbone, a former LV. She has a .859 winning percentage coaching in high school. I believe this can transfer to the college level.

Let's say Nick Saban retires tomorrow and his long time assistant takes over.

The assistant inherits a Top 3 program nationally and recruits well.

Would this assistant see Year 6 if...

Alabama did not make playoffs (equivalent of Final 4)
Alabama lost to Ms State 4x in a row (equivalent of losing to Bama in WBB)
Was unranked
Went 4-4 in league play in back to back years

One thing positive about TN losing is all the head coach recommendations that are posted. Right now, I believe every ex-player, several high school coaches, and about 30 or so college coaches have been stated to be sure fire can't miss hires if only the AD was smart enough to pull the trigger. My personal favorite was Bill Laimbeer.

I like it! Keep 'em coming!

STFU You only post when they lose. Holly ran good offense if you watch, the players did not make shots or rebound.

thank you this season the players play hard when want to n tonight they didn't.my aunt played for pat on her 1st 2 teams so watchin lady vols longtime and pat had saying she doesn'tlike to coach effort.i played D1 baseball 92-96 n have played ball since 4 and as former player how hard you play n compete falls on you.coach didn't do or ever for that matter anything cost us game.she cant make shots for them nor rebound for them.wanting her fired since she been here lot of you.when she wins great coach when doesn't fire her from some who haven't given any thoughts what she could do better during game.

OK, so then if players keep missing all game long (and all season long), can't rebound, can't box out...then the coach isn't recruiting at a high enough level.

Can't have it both ways. If the coach is getting out coached, it's on the coach. If the players aren't performing at the level Tennessee Lady Vol players should be performing at, it's on the coach for either a) recruiting subpar talent, or b) not having a proper practice and training plan in place for them to succeed as athletes.

Which one is it?

well she should have you on bench wth her.1 sweet sixteen 3 elite 8's in 4 yrs.i know ive been watchin lv for over 35 yrs we play for championships i get pissed if dont win 1 same as did when pat was here but warlick record when you compare to others is good.she brought in#1 recruits n 2019 lookin good but these players have come in and want to practice hard n play even harder in games

I love Vic's personality and approach to the game. He's a class act! But the problems we are seeing on the current team may be a result of being tired, injuries and perhaps a let down when they play teams they should easily beat. They certainly were impressive against some outstanding teams.
