What is it with you guys who seem to believe anything negative uttered about these coaches is blasphemy and should be met with scorn? Do you really believe that fans on this forum pointing out negatives after dismal performances do not want the Vols to succeed? Are you better fans than them because you refuse to say anything negative about the team or coaches? I don't understand this mindset.

The way I see it, these "sunshine" types simply cannot bring themselves to say a negative word about any players and they especially cant utter anything thats not overtly positive about the coaching staff for whatever reason.

So, because they refuse to criticize legitimately questionable performances, they shift the blame to fellow fans. Tennessee fans who love the university just as much as you but they expect greatness and refuse to simply say "they tried hard, on to next week" after a horrible game. Or in this current situation they just expect improvement to help them believe in the "process" this time around.

Ive read so many negative comments like "our fans are the worst in the country". Its strange considering UT fans were solely responsible for "checkerboard Neyland". There was a ton of Orange in the stadium at Ole Miss when UT were heavy underdogs. I would argue Tennessee fans are the best in the country and those fans who refuse to stay silent when they believe their team isn't improving like they should be are no less of a fan than those who wouldn't criticize Butch if he lost every game remaining this season.

The comments calling fans "little girls" "crybabies" ect when they complain are a good example of this mindset. You could just as easily say the same about fans who refuse to face the truth and are such "babies" they cant even bring themselves to accept that Butch and co might make the occasional mistake. Wouldn't it take more fortitude to point out negatives in a team your a fan of than sit back and accept whatever happens no matter how abysmal?

This mindset is probably influenced a lot by "bad blood" on this board that has built up through the years of misery. I am certainly not calling for some "cease fire" because "we are all brothers and sisters and should all love the Vols together like a family."

The debates that happen here are a big part of what makes Vol Nation special. But the "if you complain and point out what you think needs improving and how you think it should be done, then your a secret bama fan troll who really hates UT" mentality is strange to me.

As the HC of Tennessee, or any major SEC team, criticism is part of the job description. Great coaches silence it. At this rate, Butch Jones and you fans trying desperately to silence it yourselves better get used to it.

Keep speaking the truth, pay no mind to the sheep and their straw man tactics. Here are some illustrations of straw man tactics:

Lamb: It's a nice sunny day outside!

Realist: It's 33 degrees and cloudy with driving rain and 30 mph northern winds, how is that a nice sunny day?

Lamb: Everyone says there are massive tornadoes bringing death and destruction to every Middlesex village and farm, that's a bit extreme to me. Lowe's has better customer service than Home Depot.

Realist: What? You didn't even begin to answer my question.

Lamb: Go back to Russia you damn communist.

Example #2:

Realist: I have concerns with regard to the offensive philosophy.

Ram: Did you really expect us to win the national championship this year you idiot?

Realist: No, but I do expect some semblance of competence.

Ram: Oh yeah let's fire everyone. God we have dumbass fans! Our education system has failed, no one uses logic anymore!

Realist: I'm not going to insult your intelligence by suggesting you actually believe what you just said.

Ram: Go back to Bama you stupid troll!

I don't think it has anything to do with being a sunshine pumper or a nega.

I going to say a lot of people are gun shy due to our past experience with our coaches.

We lost coach Majors when fans started crying that Majors couldn't take us to the next level and win us a NC,

We replaced him with Coach Fulmer. Fulmer won the NC that escaped Majors. But tough times came upon Fulmer and again the fans were wanting someone's head.

Then we get the 2 goofballs that completely destroyed our program.

This madness has to stop!!!!!!!

Just because 1 or 2 programs win big in year 1 or 2 doesn't mean it will happen here.

Kinda like Yahtzee. On the 1st roll your buddy gets Yahtzee. That doesn't mean you will. You can blame the dice and cup or just bad luck. Regardless you are not going to get a Yahtzee.

There are 100+ teams and every year 1 or maybe 2 teams exceed everyone's expectations. It's not very realistic to think that you can bring in a coach and have success in ear 1 or 2. Even if a coach has done it before doesn't mean he can repeat it.

That's is why I try to stay positive and why I think some take such offence to some of the negative comments.

I dont disagree with u but do u think its asking to much to double a coaches salary n expect to get to a bowl game.. I mean six wins is all it takes..that means he only has to win 50% of his games.. Let that sink in.

I don't think that's asking a lot.

As crazy as it sounds that's still an attainable goal.

I don't think money would change anything it all falls back on talent. CBJ is the right man for the job and I believe CBJ is doing everything he can do to get us to a bowl game.

I don't know if you have ever coached a sports team. It's not the easiest thing to get kids to play the way you coach them. All it takes is one missed assignment to bust a play. That goes for any sport. In baseball it could be a bad throw or someone out of position same as football and basketball.

When I coached baseball we had a team that was terrible but we practiced hard. Even though we only won 1 game at the halfway point of the season we managed to beat the 1st place undefeated team in the league. We went on to win out and make it into the playoffs. It was the same kids but it finally came together for them. Sports are funny like that.

For the record I still believe CBJ will get us into a bowl. I'm still calling for 6-6 or 7-5.

There's a difference in saying our O sucks and theyre not getting better, Butch made questionable decisions, OC called a bad game etc...
But around here there has been too much:

I'm done!

(Before the Florida game) Worley sucks! (When in fact Worley was the only thing keeping them from looking as bad as they have now)

Last years OL sucked this years group will surprise people! (Then go crazy when a horrible young and inexperienced.line plays -wait for it- horrible.)

Jake is an idiot for not opening the playbook! (When your OL can't run block or pass block simple plays what do you want him to do?)

Theres nothing wrong with constructive critizism. It keeps us from settling for suckage. But expecting gold from green or flat out bad players is ridiculous. They have lost by double digits to 2 very good teams and was very close against 2 teams their level. If its what we expected why whine about it like we were underacheivinng like A&M or something?
I hope our team understands they suck but not to throw in the towel and give up like some of our fanbase.

I think many chalk it up to whining because they dont want to hear about the problems but rather the positives.

No whining here but the reality is another 2-3 years of recruiting top 5-10 classes before we compete for SEC championships.
THAT'S THE REALITY. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DEAL WITH IT? :whistling:

GO VOLS!

One more time all we got to do is just get thru this year, we all knew this year would be rough well anyway most of us did, the fans with FOOTBALL IQ, we are on track we are OLE MISS IN 2 YEARS, WE JUST CANT RUN THE CLOCK UP, we got to take our lumps and we are, better days are just around the corner, One more time we cant run the hold offence package because of the OL, the QB is laying on his azz in 3 seconds, 2016 will be here in 14 month and 13 days, if I could I would run the clock up but we cant.

excellent points, but could you get our CBJ to re-configure all that fancy GPS equipment (measuring our play makers in speed and vertical clearance--which is never used to our advantage) and see if he can lock in on some new clichés? Reality is always welcome; the same old coaching clichés to explain a point to the ignorant fan base is a bit tiring and just adds salt to the wound.
