Seems like the fans are split between "it's the injuries" and "injuries included the defense shouldn't be as bad as it is against weak opponents"

That sums it up. Majority of us fall in those two categories and there is no convincing us otherwise so let's stop the same threads from continuing to pollute this board.

Here is my take on this. The Gators have 13 starters out for the FL State game. If the Gators win I never want to hear "It's all the injuries".

Our D should not be this bad against the run.

The UF win over LSU is more than enough to completely invalidate the injury excuse for UT.

Unfortunately injuries are a part of the game so recruiting and developing quality depth is of paramount importance .

Had the gators actually looked good in that game I would agree. However, they didn't. They pretty much got whipped on both sides of the ball, except that LSU insisted on running the dive play every time they got inside the 10. Take away the 98 yard TD throw, where the LSU DB badly missed the tackle at the 50 yd line, and UF only managed 172 yds of offense. The defense gave up 219 yds rushing, at 4.9 yds per attempt. So except for LSU's apparent lack of creativity inside the red zone, UF was pretty bad on both sides of the ball. So I would say injuries did have an effect on them despite the fact they weren't reduced to using DEs at DT.

Anyone who doesn't understand how injuries have impacted this team hasn't paid attention.

There are two things that I cannot shake.
1. Why did we let a veteran SC coach go prior to the season and not replace him immediately with a proven commodity? Rumors are star players complained that he was to hard on them. This is on Butch Jones.

2. We have enough talent with the injuries not to lose to USCjr. This was also 100% coaching. They stopped our game plan and we had nothing else. If we would've lined up in the I formation and ran the ball we'd have won that game by 17 points.

I don't want him fired I want him to progress and realize that the USC game happens every year and you have to coach your team through to a victory. I also want Butch Jones to stop telling me what I see isn't what I see.

I do as well. It's obvious CBJ is on a SEC learning curve. Problem is, with his "system", the learning curve may be extended past the break-even point for patience with many (or most) of the fans (and perhaps alumni/contributors).

One thing that's lost in this is serviceable depth. Butch has had a lot of attrition, plus he's failed to get productivity out of several 4 star back ups.

Surr , injuries. Butch knew that OT was an issue. He couldn't get 4-star Blaire to even be a decent back up and he left with a remaining year of Eligibility.
LB is full of unrealized talent. DB as well.

Mcelwain is able to scheme his way to wins with less talent. No matter what injuries TN has, the backups should be better than USCjr starters considering all of the highly rated players you supposedly get every year.... Maybe the problem is Butch cannot develop players

Heres another theory. We've basically rebuilt our entire roster over the past 3 years. We still do not have the depth most teams have in some positions (OL) UF hasnt had to completely rebuild their roster like we have.
