I keep seeing this "No good coaches will come" narrative. If that's true, its because the people in charge arent closers!

These coaches seek money and power. They want to to be paid, have huge budgets, and freedom to run their program as they see fit. Yes, if we are offering essentially the same package as Florida and A&M, coaches are probably walking away. But does anyone really believe that if we offered Mullen for example 2.5 million more a year than Florida that he would have gone to Florida? Or Jimbo Fisher. You think if we made Jimbo the 2nd highest paid coach behind Saban he would say,"No thanks, I've been on Volnation and I'll pass on the job" Look at our recent history. We try to find diamonds in the rough rather than pitching, closing, and paying the top guys.

Stop blaming the fans for our Administration. They know a 4 million dollar a year, 8 win coach will fill Neyland, so they don't seriously pursue anything more.

until yesterday I always felt as a fan totally powerless to the system. Other programs have shown us the way to winning...you find a can't miss guy and throw a truckload of money at them. You end up paying a truckload one way or another. If you go the value route your revenue goes down (costing you millions) and you have to pay a huge buyout. Why not just pay that money up front and get an amazing coach.
I feel like yesterday the fans spoke. My only qualm is that 1. Had schiano not had he stench of penn state in his hands we wouldn't have had enough leverage.
2. Now the environmental is toxic in regard to other candidates. Currie absolutely has to go and go now. He'll be viewed as a lame duck ad that doesn't have the support of the administration or fan base. He needs to turn in his resignation immediately

Absolutely

We aren't the only passionate fan base in America. We just have one of the most inept administrations

He absolutely would have been our new coach.

I'll be honest, even without the Penn State stuff and the other rumors of character issues, I didn't want him!

69-68 at Rutgers.
11-21 in the NFL

I think he's a pretty good Coordinator but that's about it.

10 years ago Alabama pitched and closed Nick Saban. BCS champ coach Nick Saban. Until our admin grows a pair, we are stuck being mediocre at best.

This is true. If anyone turned down the job we need to know how much was offered before we decide what reality is. These clowns have a long history of offering less than market value for top coaches then saying no one wants the job. That gives them the excuse to hire a 2nd tier coach.

Strike One: Cap'n does not anticipate Bible Belters using their wrath to reflect their fanny hurt at not getting the rock star they think they deserve.

Strike Two: Fans predictably act like two-year-olds. They are fans!

Strike Three: Cap'n mistakenly reveals he has no back bone (resolve, fortitude, etc.) whatsoever, hopelessly tainting the hiring process. Quintessentially, absolutely Tennessee!

This.

There is complete ineptness at UT and it runs deep.

Hiring a football coach is not the problem, it is merely a symptom.

I don't know how someone like Currie can get to that position without understanding the effect from perception. He keep Butch Jones about 3 weeks too long. The perception was that he felt Butch could still do the job even though everyone else could see the dumpster fire he(Butch) had created. Changing coaches earlier would have made no difference in play (likely would have improved our chances). Now, He(Currie) hires a guy who does not have a good W/L record but, does have good coaching experience. The perception was that Currie went on vacation for a week and comes back and just hires someone to "make a hire".
I don't what he does or what goes on during a normal day at work for him but the perception is not very impressive thus far.
