UT football will never be elite again.

Nobody expected us to beat Bama today and few expected us to not get embarrassed. We got creamed by UK in football at home-at HOME.

No proven winning coach that can be consistently competitive in the SEC will touch us with a 50 ft pole. The odds developing an unproven coach into a winner with our schedule is not going to happen.

UT has to recruit nationally as there isn't enough in state talent to compete in the SEC. Recruiting will suffer as the Vols get trashed time after time after time after time after time on national TV.

Bulldoze the stadium and turn it into a parking lot, it is over..

There is some real potential here, either as a self-help guru or perhaps on the motivational speaking circuit... This is inspiring stuff.

I understand being frustrated but just one thing though... "never" is a very long time. People who speak in absolute terms, usually end up looking silly.

I’ve been waiting for UT to make me look silly for a long time.

I honestly don't expect us to ever be elite again in my lifetime. I'm 26 btw. But at least "good" would be nice

At our best (modern times) we won the SEC 5 times in 35ish years. One of those Johnny shared as co-champs and another was won with UF on probation.

What really spoiled us was the mid-late 90s.

We've taken a huge step back with a 22 year drought without a conference championship and 13 years since we even played for it.

I have come to the same realization, I have been in denial for years, thinking TN football was just on a long downswing and would be on top soon. But I have accepted the reality that we are no longer an elite football program and likely will not be again
I feel you. I can enjoy the games more now that I've accepted this. UT just doesn't got it. Here for the love of the Vols.not the wins

Yup. Basketball is my preferred sport to watch anyhow and not only are we better at it, the coach and players have tended to be more likable these last few years

I'm 65....The night we won the national championship against FSU I told my son that I was satisfied and going forward I would just be a fan and happy...............................I lied!

I was 4 so yeah I didn't really experience that. I started keeping up in 2006 and 2007 was the year I became a true Vols fan. Sadly that 10-4 team is the best I've seen us. Well 2015 could of been better under a competent HC but whatever. You know what happened there.

There’s a path to elite status but it’s not going to be in the SEC. Our program needs to be in a different neighborhood...

Just a week ago Tennessee was curb stomped by Kentucky.

Last year Georgia ST smacked Tennessee in the mouth.

You think moving to The ACC would help?

UT will get back there one day. The memphis area is starting to blossom with talent and we can still go into the Carolinas and recruit along with GA. Look at alabama's roster, you think they recruit specifically their home state...no
