Well the first game is over. Thoughts on anyone in specific?? We got pretty much what was expected, but our execution was pretty crisp. I wish Bray would have had some earlier playing time. Simms seemed to be letting the ball fly a little on him.

MVP is the O-line. They paved the way for 332 yards rushing.

Poole had 110 yards on 17 carries

Neal had 79 yards on 9 carries

Oku had 77 yards on 6 carries.

I hope the D is legit and they were not just taking advantage of horrible competition. We will find out next week....

:dance2:I know it was toward the end of the game, but, Neal look really good. I would have liked to see what he would have done earlier. Good night to get some kinks out and positive start. Impressed with execution as compared with previous years. Little worried about Simm's high passes, reminded me too much of Compton before the second half of the last year.

Hopefully this young O line can gel and stay injury free and pave the way for many more 300+ rushing games.

I'm excited for Wilcox's defense, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I've learned my lessons.

Next week is going to be all about O-Line and D-Line. O-Line was NOT impressive in the first 20 minutes.

D-Line was impressive, but against a tiny OL.

Oregon is going to be a rough game, I have a feeling.

Wow - Neal put up some numbers late....I thought for sure that Oku would have more yards.

The O-line did quite well. They weren't playing a dominant DL, but handling these guys fairly well at last gives you some hopeful thoughts about how they'll handle larger DLs.

Good D tonight, all around. UT-Martin didn't put up much of a fight, but they quelled whatever fight they gave. That's all you can ask for.

Oregon will be interesting. I think it will be a loss, but we'll see.

This game showed that the coaching staff is doing a very good job....and they young guns are listening and working hard.

It's a very positive start....execution was very good, only a few bad plays.

My hats off to them.....there are some good opportunities to continue to learn and grow heading their way.

Neal's play was a pleasant suprise. Once Simms settled in he looked good too.

Just a couple of comments. I thought the defense looked really crisp. Prentiss Wagner, Austin Johnson, and Lamarcus Thompson really impressed me tonight. Our linebackers are a solid unit. I am super excited about what Lance Thompson has done with them. I thought the offense looked ok. It will get better and it needs to get better. Luke Stocker has got to catch the balls he missed. Overall, great game. I am looking forward to the Oregon game. Go Vols! Stay classy.

O-Line did better than I expected, didn't once feel like we needed a short-stop in our backfield.

Wilcox has really made the defense interesting as well, reminds me of the Houston/Tennessee Oilers when Buddy Ryan was D coordinator.

Edit: The 'need a short-stop in the backfield' comment came from Lou Holtz re: the Florida-Miami (OH) game for those that missed the post-game comments. Best comment of the weekend so far.

Oregon will be a tough game. If we can establish the run and contain James and Barner I think we have a chance. It took a while for our offense to get settled in but once it did we looked ok. After today I think we have a better chance at beating Florida then we do Oregon.

avoid giving up big plays next week and we will be fine. I don't think their defense is "stout", but it will be a tough game.

They did what they should have done, I am happy about the win.

Oregon will really show us what we are all about, not UT-Martin.

Did anyone hear about Jones's wrist injury? X-rays? Sure hope Shaw's ankle is ok. Defense looked really organized and unpredictable. Thought the offense showed more of 1st game gitters than defense. Still need more experience laying together. The lucky aspect of this game was that UTM's defense was the best part of their team and the O line picked up valuable experience. Having to work hard against the UTM rush will definitely help next week. Overall, a great beginning to the Dooley era.

I really liked how Hughes looked getting off the line. There were plenty of plays that he was in the backfield before the double team could come.

two very good running backs.... if the line can block poole and oku will chew up a lot of yardage....

I was glad that we got to play a lot of people, and that we didn't have to carry anyone off the field (waiting to hear about Jones & Shaw). Liked the depth @ RB, but we didn't seem to have a lot of precision in our passing attack. The false start penalties were worrysome, as was our kicking game (kickoffs to the 25 and knuckleball field goals).

Overall, good hustle and energy against an overmatched opponent. I hope that we make a lot of improvement before our next game, we're going to need it. I still think we can win, but the next guys who come in here are going to be a lot better. We aren't going to outweigh both lines, and they have two running backs that can light us up if we take a bad angle. The WR separations aren't going to come as easy, and muffed punts will hurt a lot worse.

Man I sound negative after a 50-0 win ! Oh No - I must be turning into a negavol !

Go VOLS ! Beat those Ducks silly just like Cal in '06!

^^^and besides the rekick, Lincoln looked like he improved. I hope Jones is ok.

All you can take from a game like this is the W. Just like the WKU game last year, we really don't know much about how good this team can be at this point. That will be addressed next Saturday.

We ran the ball and stopped the run. We had only 5 penalties for 25 yards (no personal fouls), and we made some adjustments at the half and came out and executed. It is early and UTM sucked, but I like the direction we're going.
