The G-Gun was the most cliche term from April to August. You couldn't discuss Clawson or GJ without talking about how badazz it was going to be. It was going to be awesome.

I would love it if someone could get the season stats. That was the biggest crock of BS I have ever heard of.

No disrespect to GJ of course.

They never really gave that a chance. It's ridiculous how conservative this coaching staff is.

Don't want to disagree too much, and I can't quote stats because I heard it on Doug Mathews Big Orange Sunday radio show here in nashville, but I do remember at one point (5 or 6 games) in the season it was averaging over 7 yards a play.

We wouldn't have won the last 3 games anyways, but it's kind of coincidental that our worst offensive performances have been since GJ has been hurt.

Are you kidding? What makes you think this offense is even slightly capable of "opening up".

I don't disagree. In the SECCG I think it was close to 8 yards a carry and effective this year. But how many times did we see it? How many first downs did it get us? How many times did we catch an opponent offguard or even make them call a timeout? Cut's version in one game, was better than this whole year combined. Hell, Lucas Taylor threw a TD last year.

I don't want Cut back and didn't mean to go there, but we downgraded big time. Brandon Warren, bless his heart. That was the best player we had on offense. He hasn't been thrown to 25 times this entire year. Not only that, he is nonexistent. It isn't like he isn't playing or getting double covered. Clawson has no clue how to get the ball to him.

Whoever the next coach is, I'm sure he will have a similar package. But he will have to give it a new name b/c when I hear those words I start cussing.

Tennessee running the "spread"?
HOW DARE YOU!!
as we ALL know the "spread" will never work in the SEC.......but the "spread" has won the SEC a NC in the past 2 years. and maybe another one this year.

it WILL work...hell the so called "pro style" Tennessee has been running isn't working ether in the SEC...so tell tell me all wise ones....why won't the "spread" work at Tennessee or in the SEC? :moon2:

I thought Clawson was implementing the spread here. Masterful stroke, get the ball to our playmakers? Nice job coach, sorry I missed it.

Geez guys, Clawson never said he was bringing the spread. He characterized his offense as more of a West Coast pro style. He's done some version of the spread in the past when he had players that fit that style better.

I think his failure is more a cause of Fulmer's larger failures which never gave Clawson a chance in hell to get his system up and running. Fulmer snuffed this out in the crib by:
1. Randomly bringing in the majority of the O coaches with no links or knowledge of Clawson's system so no coaching chemistry and no coaching knowledge of the system to be implemented...thus Fulmer could keep the reigns tight
2. Meddling and dictating certain key elements of the offense such as insisting on Crompton as QB and inserting himself in the play calling process during games
3. Not allowing Clawson to develop/discover the offenses identity do to his meddling and over bearing conservatism.

Clawson got the raw deal this year and to his credit he hasn't shown any bitterness or complained or blow up like the Auborn OC that got canned.

G-gun was a failure because they used it at the wrong times, couldn't pass out of it. I failed to mentioned the offensive line couldn't block me. It was doomed from the beginning.

The word spread hasn't even been mentioned thus far in this thread. I don't know if you are serious or what, but sounds like you been smoking PCP all night long. Get some rest and come back this evening.

Hat, the expectations were high, the results were terrible. At least I thought so.

Clawson is probably a decent coach but come on man you cant put this all on Fulmer....His offense is a disaster! When you have players from another team talking about they knew the direction of your play because of how your offense was lined up. That means your offensive Scheme is WEAK!!

Clawson's play calling has been terrible all year. Its pretty obvious that with our QB's their best pass is deep down the field, well we should have taken a lot more shots down the field and made the Defense play back so we might have had a little success running the ball.

To me he is a lot like Chavis does not know how to make adjustments to whats not working!

Ridiculous post. The offense is in complete shambles. That is Clawson's main responsibility. If anything Clawson was the nail in Fulmer's coffin.

I wonder if we couldn't pass out of it or wouldn't.

Without the pass even being a threat, how could it work?

Can someone tell me how many pass attempts came out of the G-Gun? For I don't remember any

One, a failed screen pass.

btw, Doesn't Kentucky have a similar formation that puts up points? Not sure what they call it but it looks like G-gun to me.

Yeah but they actually use a guy that can pass in their formation. Makes a lot of difference.

That post wasn't ridiculous at all....at least the 1st point. I've heard that promises were made to Clawson that were not kept.

Fulmer dug his own grave with stubborness and idiocy.
