It's not '98 but...

I think I can say confidently, that Florida is in a much better position to outrush Tennessee this year than they were in 1998. Also, UF has a better QB than Jesse Palmer or Doug Johnson.

Also, and this is a big one, the game was in Knoxville and the energy was awesome that night. I'd be way more concerned if the game was in Knoxville this year.

All valid points.

Still, you can look at the stat ljeller provided (thanks for that by the way) and see our O was pretty weak and even our D gave up plenty of yardage...but not many points.

It's all about trying to give ourselves some reason to hope. Sometimes you shouldn't really win, at least from looking at the stats, but manage to anyway. I think that's our only hope, albeit a small one.

If UF rushes for -13 yards this year, I will say without hesitation that UT will win. On the flip side, wouldn't it be shocking if UF pulled a 2006 and held UT to negative yards rushing this year?

One of the most orange-koolaid-skewed memories in all of Vols history is the idea of Tee Martin and Co beating FL. They didn't. They kinda sucked actually. In 1998 UT gained 235 total yards against FL. (including OT mind you) Nearly 25% of that came from one 57 yard burst up the middle by Shawn Bryson. Tee Martin was...wait for it...7 of 20 for 64 yards. 64 yards

The difference was AL Wilson and Co of course. Wilson himself had 9 solo tackles, 3 assists, a pass break up and, most importantly, personally forced 3 fumbles. Moreover, FL had 6 turnovers on the day. The Gators gained lots of yardage but a ferocious and opportunistic defense denied them points.

Go Vols.

Not Orange skewed, that was exactly how I remember it. Al Wilson, won us that game, as much as any one player has ever won a game. Berry is more a dynamic playmaker than Al Wilson as far as him being deadly with he ball in his hands. That said...09 Gators are a whole lot better than the 98 Gators (although they were a good team). 09 Vols arn't even in the same universe as the 98 Vols with Al Wilson, Reynoch, Keynon, Darwin, Shaun, Cosey, Shawn Byson, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Peerless Price, Cedrick Houson, Deion Grant, Dwayne Goodritch ect.

I applaud the OP for some sound analysis that points out the game is not lost until it is actually played. Positive thinking is not ignorance.
