there were more aspects of it of which you may not be aware. Miles ran the most unimaginative offense ever. The only reason he did not get fired at end of 2015 was that he had kissed up to the governor who stepped in. Miles swore he would do better and a new offense would be seen the next season. But ... It was same ole, same ole. And in recruiting, he was just going thru the motions, at the last. In a press conference, he would never give a straight answer, just mealy-mouthed jabber. There is a reason that no other schools have snatched him up in the last 15 months. You do not want miles.

If Les is such a homerun hire why haven’t other schools picked him up yet? He has actively campaigned for multiple jobs. #dontschianomebro

Because of his age, nothing to do with his coaching ability. A good plan for UT. Hire him as HC. Tee as assistant, and OC to move in as HC in a few years. Would be awesome. You can't argue with Les Miles record. Just needs a good staff and we are set to be back contending for championships in a few years. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Rather have Kendall Briles as OC than Tee.

EDIT

I was watching the C-USA championship game today, FAU was running the Art/Kendall Briles air raid spread and not the Lane train pro style he ran here and at USC.

I'm ok with that.

Les is 64 years old and garnered no meaningful interest from any program for over a year.

If Fulmer pulls this, he is dumber than I thought he was.

Lots of people think it would be a brilliant move. Because of his age have a HC being groomed, possibly the OC or DC, and move right in as HC in few years. Who has a better record that is available than Les Miles. average about 10 wins per season. Just needs a good staff around him especially OC and qb coach. And that can be worked out in negociations. I think it would be a great hire. We could possibly have an ad with a NC, HC with NC, OC with NC, and DC with NC. What other school could say that, great recruiting material. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion; and I do respect every ones opinion.

Why did Les get fired?

I'm so sick of seeing comments about a "head coach in waiting" There is no such designation. The NCAA ended this designation with Muchamp. It is now against the rules to designate an order of ascension

It doesn't have to be designated...

first of all Fulmer is not HC he's AD
second I guess Lane, Doolittle, and Jones all did better?

Not to mention 3 of his last 6 were 10 win seasons.......Tennessee hasn't seen a 10 win season in a LONG time.

Not saying Fulmer was coaching his best late in his career, or that he should or should not have been fired.....just stating his worst is still better than what we have had since.

I just know he had something like 114 w and 34 losses. He did go down the last few years, and he had a problem with qb development and recruiting of qb. That could be taken care of with the right staff. But if you told me the next coach at UT would go 114 and 34 I would be happy.

So Les will be here until age 75?

Les will be our Rick Barnes.

Different animal tho. Barnes is adept technically and teaches fundamentals. Les is more of an administrator and recruiter who needs his assistants to win the games for him. No shade on that. Jimmy Johnson’s formula...and he’s one of the greats.
