In his Monday press conference, Saban acknowledges that this game means a lot to a lot of people in Alabama and then says, "it's kind of a rivalry game." In a sense he's right to downplay it. But he's going to see an atmosphere on Saturday that he has NEVER experienced before. His comment is near the 9:30 mark.

Bama fans say Auburn is their biggest rival.
It waxes and wanes.

There was a time not too many years back when I think most Bama fans would've married an Auburn fan (as long as it was a cousin or closer relation) if that meant they could get a chance to hurt Phil Fulmer.

In those days, the Tennessee-Bama hate and rivalry was significantly stronger than the Bama-Auburn version. The media, the fans, heck the players and coaches didn't even talk about the Iron Bowl as much as they did the Third Saturday in October.

Yea, Fulmer beating their a$$ 7 straight and 10 of 12 still messes with 'em.

For sure. I take issue with Saban's "kind of" dismissal.

I didnt hear him dismiss us. He was very complimentary of both CJH and Hooker especially. Even said nice things about our defense and special teams. Granted, I want him to choke through gritted teeth and tears this Saturday but lets not act like Saban went all Spurrier on us.

Yes, he said all of those obligatory, coach speak things. The "kind of" was the slip up that tells the truth.

We coming Saturday and we going to give it to them 15 years of frustration will be let out. At my old workplace I worked there from 2004-2018 I had a jackass co worker who would put the number of wins in a row on my locker each year after they beat us so he got from 2007-2017 before I left. I told him I may not be working here anymore but when Tennessee ends this streak I’m going to find your ass and pour orange juice all over your ass and punch you right in the nuts. Dude was a huge Bama ahole fan you know totally typical of their inbred stupid fanbase.

Pretty sure after last year's game he made a dismissive sort of comment as well. Something like "next week we play a real team" when they had LSU coming up. Bulletin board material never hurts but I hope we don't need it.
we definitely don't need it... this will be an atmosphere for the ages

And rightly so.

Interestingly, many former players have said that Auburn is the biggest rivalry for the fans, but Tennessee is the biggest for the players. Bear Bryant always said the Tennessee game was the biggest.

I'm just glad it's getting back to the significance that the Third Saturday in October deserves.
