For the past several years its seems like UT football is showing its own version of "groundhog day."
We struggle in the first part of the season .. The heat turns up on fulmer. He pulls out some wins toward the end. If we get lucky we end up in the seccg only to lose yet again. Because of the end of the season we give him another year. The process then begins to repeat itself.
I can see the signs again this year. I think its a very real possibilty we end up 7-5 this year. Assuming this does happen Fulmer will get to coach again next year. The process will then repeat itself again and again and again. Where is the woman hamilton can sleep with to break this cycle? When will we say 7-5 , 8-4 is not good enough?

I sincerely hope hamilton does not allow this to continue but unless something really bad happens I think we could be in the cycle for this for years to come.

It is becoming a trend. September misery... November recovery.

That is why Fulmer should resign/be fired.

I think 2 more years short of a BCS game is all he has left

Because most of the time our schedule is front loaded. We don't seem to prepare early in the year very well. Takes this staff a few beatings to identify who can play and who can't.

I would like that stipulation to be enforced this year. The problem is that his contract says differently. He gets a raise and an extention for every 8-4 season. Its possible to get a bcs game with that record but its extremely unlikely.

When will someone in power say they have had enough of this . This is like being 8-8 in the nfl. Its not good enough to be in the playoffs yet its not bad enough to get a good pick in the next draft. We are not going to be good enough to play a bowl game greater than the peach bowl. According to hamilton not bad enough to replace the coach either.

If bama beats us bad, then that would make it three games against florida, georgia, and bama that we haven't even been competitive in. I can't see how he makes it another year if that happens. Its one thing to lose those games, another to not even be competitive.
This weekend is kinda like phil's last stand, last try before his fate is sealed. Win, it keeps the door cracked open, lose and i think its a done deal.

well I will have to say I will have to see it to believe it. I think a good possibilty is we lose but not a huge loss. At 7-5 fulmer still brings in the bowl money and if he wins that and possibily another shot at next year. This year just being wrote off to the coaching change at OC position. It just took us to adjust to his style of play or something other such nonsense.

I guess mainly I am just frustrated right now. I hate not being able to root with all I have for tennessee to win.

No chance of that happening i think. SC is in their offweek. We go there right after bama. We might be staring 3-6 right in the face. I think its done, its over. No magic dust to fix this mess this time.

I hope your right.. not the 3-6 part of course but that he is done. I hate not being able to enjoy a win. We won yesterday and I am finding very little to enjoy.

Wow, beating UAB, Northern Illinios and Miss St sure pumped you up with some new found confidence. It was nice to finally get an SEC win, but the SEC championship? Pretty big jump of logic while hanging in the cellar.

I wonder if an unranked team has ever gone to the SEC chanpionship game?

I think you misunderstood the point of my post. I didnt say we would go to the seccg this year. I dont think its really possible at this point. The point was we do the same thing year in and year out. We lose the games early in the season win the games late in the season. Nothing seems to change and the powers that be seem to think this is just fine.

8-4 is an automatic extension, but that doesnt mean he cant be replaced. It just means that it adds another year of contract to the buyout...if they decide they want to do that. I agree the schedule is front loaded, and so our wins are coming against inferior opponents instead of UGA, UF, and Bama. Bad thing is that people remember what you do last, so they remember the meaningless wins. We get to talk about how the team has turned the corner after wins against weak opponents.

Thats why some have resorted to the unthinkable...rooting for a collapse. Not that I condone it, but some think its the only way to ensure change. And I can see the reasoning. It seems the fire is a lot less hot this week. Last week every thread spewed fire and venom, so far this week not as much.

I was at a poker tourney last night with about 20 or so people watching the game. Nearly all of the UT fans were rooting for MSU, just to help get change. I couldn't think of one UT fan in the house that was hoping for us to win out.

Its hard to want UT to win when you know what will happen. Deep down I want UT to win every time. Thats why I pick them to win in the picks contest every week. I still wear my orange not only on saturdays but often during the week as well. I just want something to look forward too.
I know this isnt likely to happen but if fulmer would just announce he is retiring at the season there would probably be no more hoping we lose by any of the fans.
