"It's great to be a TN Vol" chant

The fans took it upon themselves to chant it during the bowl game. As far as I know, it wasn't the cheerleaders who started it but was what fans decided to chant on their own.

That goes to my point, our fans decided to chant something that every high school team chants as you said. Wouldn't it be better if UT had something unique?

It's unique, no other school chants, 'It's Great to Be a Tennessee Vol'.

It seems a bit tacky and generic to me. Our fans need a new, unique chant for our future revelry IMO. Anyone have any ideas?

NO, that chant led to a gator becoming a VOL. It's called tradition and reminds us old goats of our time on the HILL.

I like "It's Great to be a Tennessee Vol." That said, I would like something that is unique and catchy to also use.

I think y'all get the point. I highly doubt everyone copied us and even assuming they did, I think something unique that couldn't be replicated would be neat to have in the repertoire. But even if someone did come up with something, it would never trend and gain "tradition status."

:eek:hmy:

Didn't the players join in the chant with the fans after the SC game? I would hate to tell them that they were doing something tacky and generic.

You should flinch a bit more.

Technically you are right. But its not much different from "its great to be a FLORIDA GATOR".

One of the great things about this chant is that it scans so well. Just the right number of syllables in the right places. How on earth do you wedge "Florida Gator" or "Vanderbilt Commodore" or "UC Santa Cruz Banana Slug" into this?

I minority of one.....OK maybe two. I think something that you could promote would be getting our entire fan base to stop drinking at the games. Drinking at the game isn't uniquely UT but an entire sober crowd would be.

Theres a few more taking my side on this.

Watching all those other fan bases chanting it really drives the point home. If someone came up with something unique, catchy and truly "Tennessee" then I would bet it could catch on quickly. I can't seem to come up with anything good.

Good grief.

"It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!" is the least of UT's problems.

More pertinent is how do we get rid of that damn Woo!?

Blasphemy! How dare you?!? Turn in your fan card!! Trying to change a UT Tradition?! Who do you think you are?! The "woo" is just as much a part of UT as Smokey and Rocky Top! You going to want to get rid of those next??!?

That about right?

30+ years ago one of the male cheerleaders would go on the field during pre-game with a Mr Microphone, do the ORANGE... WHITE... ORANGE... WHITE cheer and them start to chant BOOM CHUCK A LUCKA LUCKA... BOOM CHUCK A LUCKA LUCKA. It was... unusual.

In either '99 or '00 one of the male cheerleaders would rap over the mic modified version of DMX "Party Up" lyrics

Vols gonna make me lose my mind
Up in here up in here
Vols gonna make me go all out
Up in here up in here...

Still makes me smile when I think about it.

Just the thought of that makes the chant seem great

I just want to hear our fans singing/chanting after a win against bama:

HEY BAMA! WE JUST BEAT THE HELL OUT OF YOU!

Pretty sure that by the end of the season, several schools were doing "3rd down for what"........Tennessee stuff catches on pretty quick around the country. We're trendy folks.

I went to the bowl game with my in-laws from Iowa. My brother in law had a few to many and got mouthy on the way out of the game. All i had to say was "this is how we do it" and started yelling its great to be a Tennessee Vol. Before i could get the second word out the whole east side of the stadium was yelling it, no better feeling then putting him in his place....and i know cool story bro.

That is a cool story. It would have been better if you said "this is how WE do it" then followed up by starting a chant that only VOLS do. Instead of "this is how we do it" but its a chant that everyone else also does. Hell, Iowa fans have probably chanted it themselves.

We tried a F you Florida chant and everyone got their panties in a wad. No new chants obviously lol

I hope that the chant NOT dying out in your lifetime does not ruin your off season.:hi:

Even a slight variation on the chant would be a step in the right direction such as- " Its BEST to be a Tennessee Vol"
