"It's great to be a TN Vol" chant

Was at least 83.....FL got it from us. It's been great to be a Tennessee Vol long before it was great to be a gator.

You are correct. I remember singing it in 1982 during the worlds fair with buddies at the game. I was 11. The best type of flattery in mimicry.

Given the D line that we appear to be putting together maybe there is a Nazareth song that might be apropos?

Im not suggesting that Rocky Top not be played anymore. Now that is something unique that differentiates Tennessee from every other team.

Last time I checked we are the only team in the country that plays Rocky Top and chants "It's great to be a TENNESSEE VOL, I said it's great to be a TENNESSEE VOL"

Nothing like sing this walking out of the stadium after a win. After last year's USC game my 4 yr. old son was sing his lil heart out. You can't beat that :dance2:

Went to the bowl game and had an absolute blast. After the first quarter, I went to the men's room. I haven't heard "Its great to be a TN Volunteer" chant like that in the men's room for a long time. It was loud and proud. Reminded me of a FL or Alabama game from the 90's. Iowa fans just stood and looked amazed. Nothing needs changing.

The men rooms at Ever Bank had great acoustics. V.....O.....L.....S

Every Friday Night at every high school football game in the country .

This thread is weird to me. It's like a fan base thinking they are the only ones who use the "defense" chant or something.

The fans took it upon themselves to chant it during the bowl game. As far as I know, it wasn't the cheerleaders who started it but was what fans decided to chant on their own.

That goes to my point, our fans decided to chant something that every high school team chants as you said. Wouldn't it be better if UT had something unique?

Technically you are right. But its not much different from "its great to be a FLORIDA GATOR".

That sounds pretty awesome. Maybe im in the tiny minority here. It just bothers me to think that half the bathrooms at every bowl game location this year had a similar chant emanating from them.

I get what you're saying. That is not our chant. We didn't invent it, it's not exclusive to UT and after hearing "It's great to be a Florida Gator" so many times, it would not hurt my feelings one bit if we use something that was truly unique and ours.
I have no idea why people are saying it's our tradition, unless they feel that cheerleaders saying "go team" is also UT tradition.

your the only one

Not quite.

I minority of one.....OK maybe two. I think something that you could promote would be getting our entire fan base to stop drinking at the games. Drinking at the game isn't uniquely UT but an entire sober crowd would be.

It seems a bit tacky and generic to me. Our fans need a new, unique chant for our future revelry IMO. Anyone have any ideas?

No ideas, but yes, it does sound tacky and generic. Wonder how it would sound using Florida Gator, OSU Buckeye, or Vanderbilt Commodore?

Imitation is the sincerest of flattery. Good to see they picked this up from Tennessee.
