Just returned from a much-needed vacation in the Sunshine State to realize that we are now only 7 days away from kickoff. Wow.

FYI: Gainesville is still a hot, sweltering, stank-hole of a town, Georgia continues to leave a beautiful Hansel and Gretel trail of orange-and-white popcorn for Vol-faithful interstate travelers to follow home, and there is no better place in the entire world to play guitar than on the beach at night.

Incorrect. The best place in the entire world to play guitar is in bed at the Bellagio with talent from the Spearmint Rhino as an audience.

We'll know a lot more about the 2007 VOLS. While one game certainly won't dictate the season (see 2006...), we should have better handle on whether our:
  • running game, primarily the O-line, is back to kicking @$$ and taking names ala the Little Man, Garner, Jamal and Travises days
  • WR corp is going to find someone to step up and become a go-to guy
  • d-line can control the line of scrimmage, clog the middle against the run, and put pressure on the QB without having to resorting to blitzes
  • secondary is going to be reliable
  • place kicking will be up to the standard we are accustomed to
  • coaches can find a dynamic kick returner
And by this point, we might know whether we open at Neyland 1-0 or 0-1. I'm betting on the former.

Its going to be a LONG week.

Wel then quit making derogatory remarks regarding other peoples posts by bringing into question the veracity of their manhood and what they do with their time. In my opinion it's debatable who is being the ass.

veracity of their manhood

What are you talking about? The guy is talking about Hansel and Gretal and playing guitar on a beach. Exactly where and when did I question his "veracity of their manhood?"

You are a strange little man.

GO VOLS!!!!!!

Settle down, kiddos. It's just my very favorite release to walk down to where the sea meets the sand to play and write my music, with the moon as my only audience. I also got to jam with one of my best friends one night, and that is a treasure that I refuse to take lightly, at this point in my life.

LOL. No offense taken. The "Hansel an Gretal" reference was to Georgia's propensity to open 352-mile road renovation projects that involve the work of 9,421 orange-and-white pylons and 4 men. The beach is mine.

Good for you Kiddoc. I live on the beach and a number of my friends are very talented guitar players. They often play on the beach while we sit around the fire and drink beer. I'm better at drinking beer than playing guitar. Never could figure out how to do both at the same time.

GO VOLS!!!!!!

Even more difficult to drink beer, play guitar, and sit near fire at the same time. We should hang.

Of course your memory must not allow you to remember a thread a night or two ago where you interjected that if it wasn't for a few beer references you would wonder about everybody's orientation. . I'm done discussing this issue.

Anybody want to talk about football and what we'll know a week from now?

I'll bite. . . .

We'll know if we're 1-0 or 0-1. But what does that matter? Better yet, we'll know if we have started to right the wrongs that have plagued our lines for the past few years. I would love to be posting next Saturday about how nice it is to see our bulldozers moving earth. You?

Oh, and wish you could have been present for the "Me and Matt" jam session. It was incredible.

Yes, the jam would have been fun... but I haven't seen many drum kits on the beach. :)

I like the bulldozer analogy and hope to use it next week. I hope to see our lines dominate the LOS on both sides of the ball. Rush for > 200 yards while holding Cal to < 100. Get some pressure on Longshore with our down linemen. Have 1 turnover at most while forcing a couple.

I'll trade mediocre WR performance for all of the above and a solid kicking/return game.

Until our young receivers show what they can get accomplished, we certainly need the running game to be productive..

Yes, which is why my biggest fear is that we won't have success running the ball - and my greatest hope is that we will.

I agree General. If we can pop Longshore a couple of times early, I think it will make a very long game for him. He has to have some concerns about whether or not their Oline can do a better job this year. It won't take long to find out.

GO VOLS!
