Bailey and JG have been practicing with each other in Georgia over the last month or so. I seriously doubt Bailey beats out JG without having a spring practice. To JG credit he has really changed his body, up to around 230 and looks solid. JG is not the fan favorite but he is putting in the work. I believe if Bailey takes over its more likely midseason.I hope Bailey has been throwing a lot and reading the playbook. We need him to escort JG to the bench.
Yeah if we are doing anything of meaning this year it will be on JG...in my opinion. Didn’t have spring ball so Bailey limited in work. 5th year senior is of value if he plays like it. If Bailey comes in early it probably means we dropped a few games we needed to win.Bailey and JG have been practicing with each other in Georgia over the last month or so. The physical aspects of the game aren’t what worry me with JG. It’s his mind. Can he recognize the blitzer coming off the end? Can he change protections to stop from getting killed? Can he throw the ball before a WR gets open? Can he follow the play called? Things like that. Hopefully he learns to throw before he actually sees a WR open as it is often too late by then at this level. In high school he could get away with that I’m sure.Bailey and JG have been practicing with each other in Georgia over the last month or so. I understand all that I only stated what I've seen. Up til this point no reports on his mental state but I will let you know as soon as I get that information. The physical aspects of the game aren’t what worry me with JG. It’s his mind. I wasn’t attacking you if you took it that way. Hard to tell sometimes. But we won’t be able to tell on the mental side until we see him in live action. The good thing is we don’t have to wait for a big time game necessarily as we even struggled to put points on lesser opponents with JG at the helm.I understand all that I only stated what I've seen. One thing I thought was interesting was how JG started attacking downfield more after Maurer took over for a bit. It was likely one of two reasons. One, the coaches opened up the passing game after being far too conservative early on. Two, the plays calls didn’t really change but JG learned about some of the reads he was missing by watching from the sidelines. I tend to lean towards number 2 but it could be a combination as well.I feel ya! It's the mental part of the game that escapes him. Pre-snap reads, are not his thing. But, they need to be.
I need to see JG moving people into position, to pickup blitzers, audibling into the correct plays. Not just dumping down every time. Challenge the defense!! You had the pass blocking last season. No reason to believe you will not have it this season, and a better ground game, as well. It is time to start throwing ropes, and making them pay!!
If you can't.........we know someone who can, and will. Just sayin'. It is time to put up, or sit down!!
JG, if you are reading this, I say this with alot of love and respect, for you, as a man, who has taken his lumps(Literally). I am impressed with your toughness. I was particularly impressed with the way you came off the bench, and played well. I was impressed with the way you guided the comeback, in the Gator Bowl. You are a tough nut, son!
But, for The Vols to win, this season, we need more, and consistently. Good luck! You will always be a VFL, no matter what. Make your senior season your best! Leave here smiling, with your head held high!! GBO!
