it's clear what Heupel's QB strategy was this whole time

We need Joey to sue for another year. He has only played 3 years at D1.
The problem with Joey is he can really really good or he can be really really bad. When he is good, we win. When he is bad, we lose or almost lose. This is especially true with all the injuries we have suffered on the defensive side of the ball.

Don't give him 100% of the blame for the 10 picks.

Even with the picks, Vols have the most productive offense in the SEC and #1 or #2 offense in FBS.

They cost us one game, Oklahoma, and made Saturday's game closer than I should have been until half time. Fumbles and Interceptions are game killers.

after looking at this situation it's clear to me that this was Heupel's recruiting strategy:

1. pour all the money into Nico as the QB and face of the team for several years
2. down-recruit a couple serviceable backups (Merk and GMac) guys that aren't good enough to beat out Nico but would hesitate to hit the portal because they aren't 5* primadonnas.
3. go get Faizon Brandon and make him a redshirt who would start in year 2 when Nico went to the NFL as a junior/senior

this clearly got blown up thanks to Nico's fat f#cking daddy. and now we are exposed to having to start a QB next year that was never meant to actually be a starter at UT.

I think Heupel's only option is to hit the portal and find another senior QB that can step up like Aguilar did to get us through until Faizon is ready.
Crazy to call GMac a serviceable backup like he wasn't a 5 star before committing to Tennessee

Right. But you made it sound intentional. You created a conspiracy where we were intentionally avoiding having any viable option outside of Nico
it was, in a very real way intentional. Heupel could go after a top 5 QB every single year if he wants to but doing so just means QBs running to the portal after you pay them NIL money. so the smart move is to only go after top shelf QBs every 3-4 years.

CJH got outcoached by Venable. After first long Int. CJH has to tell JoAg how to read the deep safety. Didn't. Still, threw for 393 v Sooners w 3 TDs. Had 371 v UGA w 4 TDs. Statistically, best QB in SEC.

You think Joye hasn't been coached how to read defenses. He has. Problem is, sometime he seems to forget what he has been taught.

We went after higher tier guys and missed

OF COURSE WE F#CKING MISSED. Heupel knew before he even offered that he'd miss because of what was given to NICO. it's all part of the strategy. We went ALL IN on Nico. that was the entire plan. Nico for 3-4 years then the next top tier QB. the guys in the middle are exactly that. the guys in the middle.

GMac is not a "down-recruit," whatever the hell that is. If he can't be the guy, it's a recruiting and/or development whiff, not a failure of strategy.
A five star recruit, who got moved to 4, because he played on a horrendous team in nash, and was committed forever? Had 30 P4 offers. Also had offers to play D1 basketball.

Skipped E11 bc its dumb. Didnt go camping bc he knew where he wanted to go from day 1.

Obviously, all evidence against your conspiracy is clearly just more evidence in favor of your conspiracy.

He clearly just likes wasting his time recruiting guys he knows won’t commit, because CFB coaches have so much free time. It’s a hobby of his.

do you know how many players get offers from schools that those schools know they have almost no shot of landing?

you offer them for 2 reasons, optics and the off chance they actually accept your offer.

and it don't take a dam bit of Heupel's time to extend an offer. it's not hours of work 😂

the work comes if the player actually takes interest in your school and schedules visits and contacts.

Why did we use visits on them?

because you can't win the game if you don't play the game.

go offer the guy you think you have the best shot and landing and also offer 3 or 4 other guys as contingency plans or just in case a guy get hot on your school because another school they wanted shut them out.
