It's amazing comparing our defense now to CJP

Banks' defensive unit is among the league leaders in rushing defense (104.0, 4th SEC/24th FBS), tackles for loss (8.4, 3rd SEC/7th FBS) and passes intercepted (6, 3rd SEC/19th FBS). The first-year coordinator spoke to his group's ability to defend the run and balancing his personnel to play winning football week in and week out.

Thank you Rodney Garner

Pruitt proved without a doubt that he was a product of elite talent at every stop he made prior to TN.

Also proved he couldn't simplify his system to match the talent he did have unlike the current staff.

Seems to me they are keeping things relatively simple with the new staff which is allowing players to play faster.

You know who looks really good right now that hasn't been talked about much?

Aaron Beasley

He's been all over the field the last couple games

He's got speed, pretty good size and he's physical. I think he's outplayed Juwan Mitchell.

Hell I think Solon Page has done a lot of good stuff too.

We have four solid inside linebackers.

Who'd a thunk it?

Ppl forget about Beasley high school tape he was bringing that hat coming down hill I knew he’d be physical he was kinda a tweener tho safety LB… I think this whole team is growing at every position dbs really tackle well and fly to the ball I was really impressed with slaughter if he can watch how Theo preps and Mimick that his talent and speed is much better than Theo… 12 McDonald’s name has come up under both staffs as being a player too… banks at LB is balling too I’ve been a fan he is cut from that J Jennings cloth… the DL plays very physical no matter who is on the field Garner is the real deal… this staff is actually developing guys and I trust that they have bought in and will continue to grow each week…

They aren't thinking as much so they are able to play faster. And it always helps to play for a coach that you like or respect.
The scheme is hella simplified…the players know exactly how to line up then execute the calls. Can only imagine what the last 2 seasons worth of players we had would’ve looked like with this defensive staff….scary.

I love this whole coaching staff. They appear to have the players playing at a level we have not seen in years. Reminds me of the 1985 defense. So does the offense.

Hopefully, we have got these coaches satisfied to be in Knoxville and keep them here.
The talk on 104.5 The Zone is Tim Banks could be a HC prospect next year. I hope that isn’t the case tho.

No doubt the D “stats” will take a hit once Tennessee plays Mississippi, Bama, and Georgia.

However I don’t think anyone should make the mistake and think this D isn’t good. Pitt is the #1 O in the country and Tennessee’s D still looks good…….they will take a hit “only” because of depth and an overall lack of players.

If this D staff can stay together for a while just think what the defense can look like when they have depth and more talent? Wow…..they could be really good.

It just seems like our defense is playing better this year than at anytime during CJP's tenure here...and this despite the fact that CJP is suppose to be a defensive guru

Imo, Pruitt's only stops were at places that had very good hc, and loaded with talent. He has shown what he can do with lesser talent and him being the hc. How much of the good defenses where he coached were due to very good hc?
