It'll Be Nice Seeing Our Second String In The Outback Bowl

I have to work today and don't have **** to do. Also, I meant western carolina. I'm not really offended at all, more bored

Are you going to Tampa for the bowl game? If so I hope you enjoy it. I will be there. We can have a beer and you can see not all Tennessee people are ignorant. I do hope we beat the ugly out of
Northwestern, but it will most likely be a good game. Lighten up with the little time you have left here, you are too easy. If somebody says something about Iowa or playing backups you are done and flustered! Relax, you're going to be ok. Merry Christmas

Haha I wish I was going. Rifled through all of my off days at work and couldn't make it happen this year, but next year I'll be there for sure. Hopefully it's in Los Angeles for the Rose Bowl

Exactly. I was speaking tongue in cheek when I said that.

Not counting the game against western kentucky, what games has UT had 2nd stringers in to get them reps at game speed? I'm asking seriously, I haven't watched many of their games. Just glancing at their scores, I would assume the 2nd string hasn't played much, if at all, correct? Let me know if I'm wrong here. If I'm not, I don't understand how anyone thinks this game is going to be such a bloodbath that the 2nd stringers are put in to coast until the clock runs out. Just my (rational) 2 cents.

FWIW I was 2 seconds away from going to the Alabama game with a buddy just for ****s and to see an SEC game in person. He said it was a religious experience and I fully plan on heading down to SEC country next year.

Pretty sure the 2nd string saw some reps against UK and North Texas.

Maybe i'm superstitious but let's remember this team we're playing is ranked number 12 in the country. I just don't think we are in the position to be dismissing anyone much less a team that is ranked much higher than we are.

I agree that we have the better team talent wise. However they have plenty of time to see how most everyone across the nation have them as 8 point underdog even though they are ranked 10 or 11 spots higher than we are at this time.

That has a way of motivating certain teams to play over their heads. I certainly hope we do have the opportunity to play 2nd teamers and there is a good portion of me that believes it will happen. I just don't want to hear all the talkers on TV telling everyone who will listen that we overlooked the Purple Vandy.

Agreed, we better hunker down and get our heads straight! Gonna be a ball game!

It's interesting to me that so many are ready to go ahead and celebrate a butt kicking so shortly (matter of a couple of months) after moaning about how the sky was falling after losses to Oklahoma and Florida. The Vols may have more talent at certain positions, but are they better coached? Are they incapable of turnovers or missed tackles? Have the coaches suddenly become brilliant strategists who'll force the issue late in games?

Hope you boys are right but I'll be happy to squeeze out a close one.

Okay, the only teams Tennessee "blew out" this year were bowling green (solid MAC team) Kentucky (dog **** SEC team), Vandy (extremely mediocre SEC team) and western Carolina (as any top 25 team should).

North Texas (1-11 non power 5 team) held them to 24 points, not a "blowout" per se, especially considering who they played, and barely beat USCe....

What makes you think you're gonna blow out a top 15 team in the country so badly you can coast with second stringers?

And don't give me the Iowa and Michigan rebuttal. Iowa is a top 5 team in the entire country. Michigan only scored 21 points on offense.

It's gonna be hilarious coming back to these boards on New Year's Day if northwestern wins, which they very well could

We'll never see you again. :wavey:

The Vol's had better take NU very serious or they may get their ass kicked, the Vols must be ready and come to play some winning football

Bet Butch knows that...and will share with the team after Jesus's birthday. :)

I want to see Hurd hit 1300 total yards on the year meaning he gets 142 against NU. Hopefully a TD also.

Don't forget vandy. All in all they saw decent action in 4 games this year. Though several key position second stringers - mainly on the lines - were in every game more or less.

Northwestern = Vandy north

We'll treat yall like we did Vandy. Expect this time our 2nd string won't give up 2 late TDs.

52-10 win.

2nd string played the 4th quarter of the Bowling Green, Kentucky, North Texas, and Vanderbilt games. Also played from the middle of the 2nd quarter on against Western Carolina.

So that's parts of 5 different games where the backups got to see playing time.

Should happen again January 1st against Northwestern from about the middle of the 3rd quarter. Just like they played last year from the middle of the 3rd quarter against mighty big 10 west champ Iowa.

I agree. Is the UT team that beat Georgia going to show up, or the one that *played* against North Texas?

Which team showed up last year at the TaxSlayer Bowl?

One thing I don't worry about with a Butch Jones coached team is them showing up.

It's one thing to sleepwalk through a game against arguably the worst team in the FBS in the middle of a grueling SEC schedule. Its another to be worried about them not showing up against the #13 team in the country in a New Years Day bowl after having a month off.

We're gonna whoop that ass stop worrying.
