I have seen many Negavols post that we have ZERO chance of winning this game. I thought this was worth mentioning...

My freshman year, 1985, we opened the season unranked and tied #10 UCLA at home (in '84 we had tied Army and lost to Auburn, a then irrelevant FL and KY). Week two had Bo Jackson and #1 ranked (AP and UPI) Auburn coming to Knoxville and the Vols on ABC for the second straight week. Bo was the leading Heisman candidate and ABC was there to showcase Bo. We were irrelevant (yes Negavols, this isn't the first time the college football universe hasn't revolved around us).

I'm not saying we will win the Sugar Bowl this year or that our D hasn't sucked for the most part up to this point. I am just offering a reminder that upsets do occur... and it wouldn't be the first time our unranked Vols have knocked off the consensus #1. I can't find the line on that game, but it was at least 10. In the end, Bo Jackson took himself out of the game and I helped bring down a goalpost.

History has been known to repeat itself.

I see where you are coming from but there is nothing in common with this team and the '85 squad. There is not much in common between '85 Auburn and this bammer team.

I used to think like you do but not anymore. IF the coaches take some chances (85 sugar bowl D and Testaverde) the chances go from 0% to 10%.

A decent head coach would move the chances to maybe 40% but we don't have that.

Any team has a chance when the game is played. Thats why they play them.

Appy State had a 0% chance to beat mighty Michigan either...But they DID beat them.

That's why we play the games.

Anything can and does happen on any given Saturday.

I'll always believe my Vols can Win against any team until the game is played and the scoreboard at the end of the game says UT has less points.

Fact is that our Vols shouldn't have Won a NC in 1998 but they DID get the fumble from Arky close to the end of the game and we DID score to beat Arky before time ran out and the rest is history.

Most everyone thought that Bowden and Florida State would kick Tennessees butts especially after our OC left before the NC game to go be a HC down in Mississippi.

Tennessee DID beat the semiNerds and Won the NC anyway.

Right now the scoreboard is 0 to0 and anything can happen in Neylans on any given gameday.

VFL...GBO!!!

Great post volmax. Theres not many who'll understand,because they were nit around when Tenn wasn't considered a relevent team. They don't understand that football cycles or that on any given saturday any team has a chance. Appalacian state and utah understand this. Even vanderbilt understands they've upset bama,fl,and lsu in past years. I love my Vols,have since 1967. I will always proudly wear my orange and cheer for them win or lose. As I said football cycles,so look at it this way. Its bamas time now but they're on the downward trend. They're day in the sun will end as ours returns. Beat bama GBO

Everybody beat Mich that year, not a good example at all. Quit reaching. Yes we can win there is always a chance.
