It wasn't FL that beat us...it was us.

I was literally thinking the exact same thing just now.

I mean the poor execute, overthrows (still), drops, ridiculous amount of penalties. Heupel and Co actually called a great game but he's gotta get the team locked in when it comes to execution and being discipline. We could have won this game.
Called a good first half. 2nd half everything was bad. Felt like we abandoned the pass, Mays needed to be took out way before he did. Tempo was slow. Felt like UF had more tempo. Defense kept everything underneath them and allowed Florida to gain chunks. Overall, don't felt like we tried to win after the half. More like just wanted to compete. Disappointing. I imagined Hooker playing like Emory Jones. Never happened.

FL did not play us as tough as I would have imagined. They capitalized on our mistakes. You will never win when you give FL 30 yards based on penalties. All on stupid stuff that should never have happened. Missed and dropped passes are not good either. Any team that is close to FL's level will be hard for us to beat. They will readily see our weaknesses and take full advantage.

When you get beat 38-14 then the other team beat you. It doesn't feel good to say but it is what it is.

I have heard various versions of this "we beat ourselves" for many years. I remember losing to Alabama 49-10 in 2016 and hearing from a lot of different places that the score is not indicative of how close we are to Alabama but that we beat ourselves. The good news is that we still have fans that are eternal optimists (I am one of them as I optimistically believed we could win 10 games this year including the bowl game). Not sure how that helps the team, but the way I figure is that it is better to be optimistic about a team of kids that we have no control over versus being negative and miserable about something out of our control but that we refuse to walk away from.

The 30 Yard penalty was overcome by forcing the turnover. That play didn’t lose it.

I agree. This football product UT has put on the field is not sound in their football fundamentals. Just one damaging sophomoric proof of this is when we put two players on a kick return both wearing #1. Ever seen Saban's team do that? How about Kirby Smart's? How about Stoops at Kentucky? We aren't that sound. To give you an even better understanding of how we're closer to being the Keystne Cops than a solid football team, both of our #1 wearing players left the field simultaneously, leaving us on that play with 9 total players. It's who we are right now. Will Heupel get the fundamentals right? Time will tell but no way this level of poor football gets 4 or 5 years to find itself. Oh by the way, we didn't cover a 17.5 spread, let that sink in.

UF played down to UT. Hungover after playing bama. Far more talent. Far more depth. This is one of the weakest rosters UT has had in my lifetime....and no, I'm not 28.

Banks and Carvin and Mays are the dumbest players on this team in terms of penalties. They can’t go without getting at least 1-2 a game.

We played them alot tougher than some of the so called fans we got. We're getting better, gonna win 7. GBO!!!!!
Definitely, 1st half had many thinking it could go either way, 2nd half showed the depth of talent, no reason to hang your heads considering where y’all have been.

Could the game have been closer? Yes, if Tennessee makes the plays that were there to be had.

Could Tennessee have won the game? No. Florida was too strong down the stretch. Probably could have been a 7-10 pt loss

You're not wrong. But every bit of that is fixable. Some of our fans are trying to microwave a solution for this bad program. I said program, not team. This program didn't get where it is overnight and it's not getting out of it overnight. The product we put on the field last night was several times better than what we've put on the field since Dobbs left. Despite some questionable coaching calls like the time outs, I am pretty sure we've got our guy at coach. We just have to endure the process.

I think we'd have won if we had been at home.

We couldn't be Pitt at home!

We have to give UF credit. They made plays. We didn't. So it's a mix of both. If we execute cleanly and actually catch some balls, I think we are in the game late. But doesn't mean we win by any means. There's a clear talent and roster disadvantage this year. That was made obvious.

Lost by 24 yeah Florida didn't beat Vols[/QUOTE

There are football games where scores seem closer than what actually happened in the game. It's because 3rd stringers came in to mop up and took the foot off the pedal. And there are games where it looks like a beatdown when you look at the final score, but the team gave up along the way.

This is what TN did. For those who watched the whole game, you know it was not out of our grasp.

Yes, FL WON, but FL did not give us a BEATdown...

I want someone on this board to explain to me why Heupel put Milton in the game instead of Harrison Bailey.
Milton seemed to have no energy. I thought he would give it the ol' college try. It appeared he didn't care any more. I expected better from him.
