It should be obvious after tonight ...

Yeah we avoided big bad Va Tech all these years because we are afraid of losing to them. Did we not just play a home and home with Cal, starting with Oregon next year? I also see Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and USC on future schedules.
You think Cal has been as consistent as VT this decade in Football? If so you should probably stop drinking soon.

I've heard numerous times from various sources that Beamer's the one who's declined the offer. Mike Hamilton has said numerous times that we're willing to play this game but can't get anything finalized. Tech doesn't want another game that would hinder their chances to get to 10 wins. I choose not to accept your facts.
Wrong.

Your big bucks theory makes no sense whatsoever, considering both schools would make mega bucks playing at BMS. The capacity is right around 165,000 not to mention TV revenue. Oddly enough the reason UT consistently gave in declining the game was they didn't want to give up the revenue from a home game. That excuse is just lame and doesn't even add up. Go figure.

so you think they wanted to play us just because they might win and not make a butt load of money there?

Throw out Cal and you can see that those teams like Ohio State, Oklahoma, and USC are better than your "elite" Hokies. I don't drink btw. Maybe you are the one who should be putting down the bottle.

According to both Jim Weaver (Tech's AD) and Frank Beamer via the Hokie Hotline radio show Tech accepted the offer to play at BMS when approached. I have no clue what happened from UT's perspective, but unless Weaver and Beamer are lying to us (and I see no reason at all as to why that would be the case as he has never been accused of decetion before ) then you are mistaken sir. Either way it'd be a fun rivalry to start. Good luck next year Vols and good game.

The idea of playing at Bristol is retarded. Fans would be a mile away from the field. If UT really declined, it's because they had enough sense to know that it was a stupid idea.

Congrats to the Hokies, but yes we could have and should have beaten them. Tonight we simply lacked the fire that this team played with all season that allowed us to compete and beat teams that had better talent.

i don't think so, our oline was getting blown up and our linebackers were overplaying. crompton would have had to play perfect to win that game. it wasn't possible with our line.

kiffin did well with the players he had.

Our offensive line was comprised of four guys who were playing their last games as Vols. You think they got abused because they weren't fired up to win?

Va Tech is clearly better. But the idea that we are ducking out of conference games because they are too tough while we've been playing Notre Dame, Cal and have teams like Oregon, Oklahoma and Nebraska in the future is a little silly.
Agreed. For years we have played tough OOC games

Tennessee didn't want a home and home because of VT's much smaller stadium when Dickey was AD. Hamilton's looked into the Bristol thing and nothing really came of it. It would be a lousy place for a football game anyway. With Lane Stadium being expanded recently and the Hamilton more willing to play at teams with smaller stadiums, it may happen. Will still be a long way off because both teams are full till 2018-2020, but it could happen.

As far as tonight's game, our lack of talent reared its ugly head again. Our first team is pretty good, but 2nd team isn't a step down, it's a leap into the Abyss. We're down a ton of players, and it's going to take some time. Next year will suck because of Fulmer's last couple classes. All our talent with the exception of Berry are freshmen and seniors. The seniors are gone, along with Berry. It'll be 2011 before this team is ready to make a big jump because of the poor recruiting of the previous staff.
