It is OFFICIALLY time to get new uniforms

Good gracious....

The ONLY thing I will agree about all this is somebody needs to get all the orange, or all the teams to match. Someone pointed out the orange on the helmets and stripes doesn't seem to match the orange of the jersey (or the orange pants). The orange numbers of the white jerseys seems to be darker than the orange jerseys.

The basketball teams' orange uniforms don't seem to match the orange of the football team, and doesn't even seem to match the orange on their warm up pullovers.

How hard can it be to have everyone use the same shade of orange?

Honestly, I won't care if Tennessee stays with Addidas. But it's sad enough to me that some recruits commit to schools that have "Nike". It still irritates me how Josh Selby decommitted from Tennessee ,because Tennessee wasn't affiliated with Nike. I agree Nike is good ,because it would be good for our football and basketball programs. But if you guys want "awesome" uniforms, I suggest Under Armour. Under Armour really specializes in uniform designs.

UA is crap. Just ask Auburn about the UA cleats. Nike does some good stuff, despite popular opinion around here. Look at Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, and California. All sport classic and traditional designs and the fan gear pretty much speaks for itself. Does UT need it? No, of course not. But the rampant crap Nike gets on these boards is a little far-fetched and really odd. Why all the hate?

i doubt we'll renew our contract with addidas. i'm sure kiffin will push for nike.

it's already being done with Adidas. It was posted on here by a guy who has been very knowledgeable on this subject in the past

The black uniforms were a step last season but it has become painfully obvious that we need to get new uniforms.

A new uniform design will go a long way to helping put a stamp on this new era of UT football. Hopefully nothing too dramatic but we must return the 2 stripes to the sleeve that we wore throughout the 70's and 80's.

Adidas needs to do their job or we will end up switching to Nike or Under Armour.

:jpshakehead: Clueless.

We've already re-signed with adidas. The contract is still be finalized by the purchashing and legal departments at UT, which both have to approve all vendor contracts.

Until things are finalized, UT and adidas are operating under a memorandum of understanding, under which all of next year's gear has already been ordered for the teams. The new deal is slated to run an additional five years and was far more "generous" than the bids submitted by other manufacturers.

Alabama needed new uni's

And why don't you ever hear any Penn State fans talk about needing new uniforms, especially since their uniforms are the plainest, most boring in the business? Could it be that uniforms don't make the player?

If some fans think that winning is based on unis....maybe we should throw in some baby blue like the lady vols. Ask Pat if it's the colors or the hard work and dedication to the University.

They tried that in 1987. Columbia Blue trim on the numbers. Looked decent on the home uniforms except they looked like somebody screwed up an order of the old Tampa Bay jerseys. It looked awful on the road jerseys. That being said, I hope we never see the Columbia Blue trim again on any of the men's athletic wear. There was only one thing that looked good with the 1970s and 80s Columbia Blue and Orange, and that was an orange hoodie with the block Tennessee in white with the blue trim. I still have mine from 1988.:rock2:

Would orange LED lights as the stripes and Ts of our helmets hold up to the impacts throughout the game? That would be really cool for night games.

Did you not see my post explaining how teams with plain/classic jerseys DO have the dri-fit material. Im tired of our shiny jerseys, we would look great in that "dri" look. Also if ANYTHING needs to be done, the stripes should be removed from our pants. All white pants like the old days look MUCH better.

Definitely agree with that statement. The stripes look terrible.

The old days? You mean the 90s?

The adidas jerseys that we wear are made by Ripon, the same company that manufactures most NFL on-field jerseys for Reebok, using the same materials used in NFL uniforms. If it's good enough for the NFL, it's good enough for Tennessee. End of story.

I am torn on the idea of changing uniforms... but don't underestimate the psychological power of a complete uniform makeover. I am a huge Denver Bronco fan, and after losing 4 superbowls, Denver changed to the trend-setting blue unis with the power orange curved stripe. What happened? They immediately won 2 superbowls.

Also... Tampa Bay Bucs had been a losing team for 2 decades, then they got rid of the orange, changed to the gray-red unis. what happened? They immediately became a playoff team and eventually a superbowl team.

Oregon's unis are distracting... but the team and fans seem to garner some attitude and mojo from their uniforms. Oregon has been a regular in the Top 10 since wearing them.

I am not saying that changing uniforms is best for Tennessee... but those who dismiss it as as a non-factor are fooling themselves.

I support the group of guys on the field representing Tennessee. That is my tradition... not the uniforms they are wearing.

I think small tweaks could be made that would satisfy traditionalists and sate the desires of the younger, "trendier" fans.

Personally, I would enjoy seeing Orange tops with black pants on a rare occasion or two. I think a very thin black stripe around the numerals makes them easier to see.

If there's one fashion statement I absolutely expect the team to start wearing, it's championship rings. Those had better be in the works soon.

They are in the UT Annual for 1987. Also, you can see glimpses of the road jerseys on You Tube. Look up 1987 Tennessee Alabama. The picture quality is not great, and we got stomped in that game, but in a couple of sideline shots, you can see the road whites with the orange numbers and Columbia blue trim. There is also a full front shot of Jeff Francis in this jersey after throwing a pick. Anyone else have better access to old pictures? If I remember, they only wore them for a few games. I know they wore them against Bama, because I was there.
