It is nice to actually care again...

Am I the only one on the board that actually relishes the disappointment. It has been a long time since I actually expected to win. The pain helps me know the Volunteer spirit is alive and well.

With apologies to REK "It feels so good feelin' good again!"

Maybe you are more evolved as a fan than I am, Lex. I was disappointed repeatedly last year, right up until Wyoming. On the other hand, there is very little short of 100-0 that would actually qualify as beneath my expectations Saturday.

I care every season, until there is no point in caring any longer. That point was Wyoming last season when it was apparent the team had given up - so I did too.

The loss on Saturday was just as disappointing and embarrassing as the loss on Labor Day last season. I am shocked our team lost the way they did; again, to a team they should have beaten to a pulp.

It really disturbs me to hear about the locker room shenanigans after the game as well. Lane may be teetering on losing his team just like the old regime did last year.

And it pains me just like last year. Last year it was a long flight home, this year it was a long drive home.

The idea of being more evolved...I'm just a knuckle dragging hick....it just felt good to actually expect the Vols win and to cover. It has been a long time since that has happened. I actually had nervous energy before the game.

Maybe...just maybe the build up was the same for the UCLA game last year. I detached immediately after that loss when I realized Clawson wasn't going to fix our offensive woes.

I made the mistake of holding out hope. After all, there were positive signs through 3 quarters last year. And the defense played OK against Florida. And we were one first down away at Auburn. And we own Georgia. And the offense showed signs of life against MSU. And USC sucks. And it was Wyoming. What can I say, sometimes I am slow.

I had actually started to prepare myself for a loss to Kentucky before we figured out that passing wasn't mandatory, and that we could just remove those plays from the playbook.

Unfortuantely I realized Saturday that the current offensive staff isn't any better. They'll get more than a year to improve, but my expectation this season is in the tubes.

That was my last trip to Knoxville for the season - I'll be rooting for them from the couch.

The team imploded after the game assigning blame in the locker room. Apparently it got pretty ugly. That's not a good sign of unity after the second game.

Or it means they care a hell of a lot more this year and are vocalizing it.

Kiffin referred to the finger pointing and that he will work to get it fixed.

So you can honestly say and believe this staff isn't any better? I know you're a Foolmer slurper... But that is stupid at best.

Good point.

I like the fact that the players realize what was behind center was a joke... Will just make the change run more smoothly when The 'Stached One is put on his rightful place on the end of the bench.

Stupid is watching the game on Saturday and trying to say they are good coaches. The list of blunders is a mile long. I bought into the Kiffin hype early on too - but the bottom line is this is a staff of fired head coaches. Can they pull it off? I hope so. But the game on Saturday has me wondering.

After Fulmer embarrassed UT last year against this same team I called for his ouster.

This is the same squad for UT (arguably improved) and the same squad for UCLA (with a frosh QB that had played in one game in over two years). In our house. We were a 7-10 point favorite. We got schooled.

I'm not calling for Lane's head, but he certainly embarrassed UT in his second game.

Kiffin has his plate full, having to fix locker room unity and offensive ineptness.

maybe i just don't pay attention to the sideline very well, but i loved when our players were grouped together at the end of the 3rd quarter jumping trying to get hyped. i don't remember that happening before, but like i said i might not have paid much attention before. even though it didnt translate to a stellar offensive 4th, the heart and passion was there. i just hope we can keep that up. it might not lead to a bunch of wins, i just don't to see us give up

Disappointed because I expected to win? This is how I felt after last year's game against the same team. Both years, it seemed like we were on the verge of blowing them out, and then...

This is me.

At this point last year, I felt the same as I do now. Apathy didn't set in for me until between the Florida game and Auburn game. I was upset after the Florida game but not surprised. But the Auburn game was the final nail. After that I lost interest in the season because A) I knew we were 6-6 at best B) At the time I figured Fulmer was safe so I saw no relief any time soon; I figured we'd have at least another season of this.

It's different this year because we do have a new coaching staff. I still think this season is going to end up 6-6/7-5 but I have hope.

The cause of the offensive ineptness is clear to everyone. And Kiffin had his plate full coming in last December.

I wonder - it was just a few days ago that Kiffin was telling everyone that JC had potential to be drafted by the NFL. Was it just coach speak? And if so, why make such a grand statement - why not just say JC will have a really good year?

He's either stubborn or stupid for leaving JC in the whole game. The next two games will tell us if we're looking at a 6-6 season or a 2-10 melt down.

Lane would do very well to approach the QB position as he does with every other position on the field (with the exception of EB of course). I think it is a little different this year because once Jon is benched, his career is over.

I do think that Lane deserves an opportunity to prove he can learn from his own mistakes.

Lane added some length to the rope this weekend, but it won't be ready for the gallows for many years.

I just don't understand his thinking for keeping Crompton in the game. You have 12 games to win or lose a year - that's it. To stick with a guy that wasn't helping you win a winnable game makes no sense.

Lane said he learned from the game. We'll see.

There is a good chance that Crompton is seriously the best we have. Thank Phil for that.

Quotes from the coach less than 3 weeks ago:

"It really came down to Jonathan was a little more accurate," Kiffin said. "Both guys made a number of plays during camp. Both protected the ball very well with very low interception numbers and very good numbers in general in all preseason games [scrimmages] combined. Jonathan had a slight edge for accuracy."

JC clearly had no accuracy on Saturday. Why not put a guy in that had "very good numbers in general"?

"It's weird to say it, but if you listed the five most improved players from spring, Nick would be one of them even though he didn't win the starting job," Kiffin said. "If something were to happen to Jonathan, I feel very confident that Nick would come in and do a great job for us.

I guess coach didn't think anything had happened to JC during the game even though everyone, including himself, had lost all confidence in JC as a QB.

Clearly we have a QB problem. Is it so bad that NS isn't even a viable option despite coach affirming his confidence in him a few weeks ago?

Never stopped caring. Each loss is gut wrenching. If someone could make me stop caring, I would actually appreciate it. Can't get much lower than I have been over the last few years.

They have nothing to work with. No competent QB or OL on campus. How in the Hell can you make that determination without first seeing what they do with actual talent down the road?

I sure as Hell won't miss you.

Genius, feel free to compare offensive stats between the two games against UCLA - one at home and one on the road. And obviously you can't read since I said they can improve which implies as you say "down the road".

I couldn't care less who you miss.
