It’s Time We All Accept It....

"That guy" had teams that were a heck of a lot more fun to watch and didn't bleed Alabama crimson. Say what you want about Coach Fulmer, but I would much rather watch his teams on YouTube than the mess we put on the field today.
Should have never fired Fulmer and instead, given him time to “ right” the ship. He played in the SEC championship game in 1997, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007 and Mike Hamilton ( another Bozo), fired him in 2008. Dumbest mistake ever in the men’s athletic department that may have ruined our football program forever.

'51 and '98

Well hell, UCF has a "claimed" NC too
We didn’t “ claim” ‘51 and ‘98, we were the actual National Champs. How has Georgia , who typically has a top 5 recruiting class every year, done The past 60 years? I guess it would be horrible to be them and waste all that talent year after year

I'm saying 51 and 98 are the two recognized NCs...

I’ve been a Vol fan my whole life and I’m almost 65. This is the absolute worst it’s been in my lifetime, hands down. And that’s covering 55+’seasons.
I am not an alum so I don’t have that connection, but this still hurts.
Actually a Vandy grad. Engineering 1978. They suck again but will give the Vols a game.

Lol. Our facilities aren’t top notch anymore. This ain’t 10 years ago. We are nowhere near this storied program that some fans continue to hold onto. We have 2 NCs in the past 60 years.
And 98 was a fluke if we're honest. Bama and Georgia sucked and lucky bounces

This is complete bs. We have the facilities and fan base to match any program in the country. Problem is, we’ve made some horrible coaching hires and should have never fired Fulmer when we did. The right coach could bring us back to competing for championships . I’m not confident we can make the right hire though.

Firing Fulmer wasn't the problem - he was done as far as being competitive, the game was passing him by. The problem was the abject panic that set in once Kiffin left, resulting in two hideous hires, and almost a third with Schiano.

Bringing Fulmer back was a huge mistake, and kept us from getting Leach, who would have at the very least brought back some mojo to a program that was dead in the water. I don't believe that Leach can win an SEC title, but he's a legit national coach who would at least have brought the program into the 21st century and provided some juice here.

Instead, we continue the career assistant / mid major HC train that started with the execrable Dooley. Unless and until Fulmer puts his ego aside and they are willing to pay a legitimate Power 5 caliber HC, this program will remain the joke it has become.

Yeah, but those games are from what at this point is the stone age in big time college football. Nobody questions Fulmer's place in UT history, but history is just that - the sport had passed him by in 2008, and we are looking at him to bring the program back to relevance now?

That's ridiculous. If that's the case, you can go back through the years and find a ton of "fluke" national champions. The teams that win have always generally gotten some lucky bounces, have stayed healthy while others haven't, and have benefited from scheduling. We were undefeated through an SEC season, won a conference championship game, and the national title game. Some fluke.

I agree with you. Notre Dame gives me some hope that a storied program like us that has gone way down can still get back to being in the National championship picture.

I don’t think ND is amazing, but I thought that program was dead at one point and past their prime. Everything runs in cycles. Just hoping our time will come around again.

Probably a better example than Notre Dame for us is SMU.

Or better yet we should’ve had much better contract lawyers/a competent AD that would’ve had more than a $500k Buyout Clause for Kiffin. I still feel that was the right move at the time when we brought him in and it would’ve been a different world these last 10yrs. What’s killing this team is QB play and playcalling, but the two things are clearly related. They don’t trust JG, but keep playing him. They put Bailey in and didn’t put him in a position to succeed whatsoever with 7 runs before letting him throw on 4th down finally. I really feel like he just doesn’t know the playbook. Early on in the Covid season I get it, but now with 2 months nearly into the season he hasn’t been getting reps?!?!? It’s madness and inexcusable when the other guys have proven they don’t have it period. Mauer looked horrendous running around scared to death with people running open and Bailey should’ve gone in when Mauer did. At this point you have nothing to lose by giving him some game experience and your not going to “ruin him” when he actually has a good OL to play behind.

When Pruitt talked about the Bi week and how they went back to basics, held a spring type practice working on tackling, agility and fundamentals, I nearly choked. We are in the middle of the season and they decide they need a spring practice.

I really feel that Bailey is our future. The kid has a very nice touch, quick release and is accurate. He can't help it if his first past bounced off the reciever and was intercepted. The second one with 8 sec left was a hail mary to the end zone, means nothing.
Why they call 3 runs before punting every series he got is beyond me. Would it be too much to ask Chaney to mix it up a little bit, maybe a pass on first down?

Throw the damn ball down field, make something happen, force some errors from the opponents defense. BORING BORING BORING!

I think it’s time we accept it. I think it will make it easier for all of us if we just accept that UT is not a good football program and probably never will be again. Yes we were pretty dominant in the 90’s and UT is a storied program with a winning past but the fact is those days are over. Times have changed. You can’t go through this many years of turmoil and chaos and survive. From top to bottom this program is bad.

SAD BUT TRUE. Our coaching hires make it certain things will never get better. We are no better than third or 4th in the east, even on a "good year". We will never again be on a level with Ga, Fla, Lsu, Bama, Auburn.

We keep repeating the same mistake when we hire a coach. We always fail to find the money to hire one that could get the job done.
