If you have a QB who can play, you want the ball in his hands. The stud true freshman for Clemson threw 41 passes in his first start. He was the difference in the game.

JG has never thrown 41 times in a game. He’s been playing for 3 1/2 years. Interesting comparison I thought.

No comparison!
One is an elite talent QB, the other is a poser that lines up behind the center.

One is a legit Qb, the other isn’t even a legit D2 Qb. Does the NAIA still exist. I doubt JG would excel at that level if it still exists.

My son played football in the NAIA for 4 years back in the early to mid 90's....Played on 2 quarterfinal teams and 1 semifinal team.....I can tell you first hand JG would not have started my sons 4 years.

Comparison that a talented but green QB can get geared up to be the focal point of the offense. But we have a marginal but experienced QB that we still don’t trust.

We have a 5 star guy watching everybody else take the field and lose games for us at the QB position if you want to compare him to the Clemson youngster. Oh by the way Clemson had to deal with Covid-19 as well and somehow got their youngster able to play winning football.

OP is correct, college football is a QB lead game. If you have a talented QB you can play if not you’re Tennessee. I honestly believe we don’t have a QB that can play SEC football and we don’t have a coaching staff capable of developing one.
Maurer and Bailey are.

Pruitt is just under some kind of Guarantano Voodoo

You said it. Either coach or recruit someone to play at this level. There shouldn’t be any reason to be stuck with a bad one. Ga, both Miss schools, Ark, S Car, and Kentucky are starting transfers. And we won’t even sign one.

Who has taken the field this year besides JG? Maurer and Shrout have not gotten an opportunity any more than Bailey.

One was a 4* prospect. The other was a 2*.

Coaching matters. Mullen has lengthy track record for developing QBs. Weinke, not so much....
Weinke doesn't decide who plays. His job is to develop the QBs. Truthfully though. Mullen chose Franks. If not for his injury, Trask likely never starts. And coaches can help a guy reach his potential... they can't make a guy's ceiling higher than it is.

JG was just badly overrated.

JG has 6 TDs on the season. Trask has 18 TDs on the season.

Anyone who says QB's don't matter is a bonehead.
When doing research for this post, i see JG has thrown for 38 career TDs. Didn’t Peyton throw for 36 his final year at UT?

yep. But step 1 is to decide if you’re OK with the results of who you have. Ga had some 5 star redshirt freshman who clearly wasn’t ready. They courted a graduate transfer, a Power 5 transfer, and a Juco transfer all in one offseason.

If our plan is to let Bailey, Salter and JG battle it out next year, it will get dicey. We don’t have the luxury of worrying about our future QB transferring. Winning solves everything.

Maurer gives us a spark and a running option to escape the heat. But he can’t stay healthy. Either way, i don’t see him as the man next year.
