One of the reason this team is suffering is because most of the leaders and captains are done for the year.
This means in the locker room you have your leaders less focused on the game than the other guys. They don't have to get as focused or hyped up for the game.
Their mind is on what they can control - coaching, mentoring, and preparing for the next level. There isn't anything wrong with that - except for the fact - that none of it translates to on the field leadership.
Danny O Brian was an on the field leader. You could see the team respond to him.
Derek Barnett is an on the field leader

Dobbs used to be but he's lost it. I don't know why or what happened. But it's gone.
Hurd used to get fired up but he doesn't anymore.
We saw this issue in offense during the VT game when a backup QB had to be the vocal leader for the offense. That's a problem.
