ISIS Takes Control of Mosul

I would hold off on believing that story about the 200 contractors right now. If it were true you'd be hearing about it from every major news organization.

I'm in favour of the British giving air support to Iraqi cause. I think Obama seems to be leaning this way too.

According to news reports Sharia Law was declared in Mosul. Not sure if it's the same story in other Iraqi cities or why just Mosul. God help the women/girls or Christians.

Not sure why, islam is a peaceful religion.

I'm fine with England or heck any European country lending a hand. Put troops on the ground for all I care.

I just hope we sit this one out.

Iran have lent a hand by sending their 'elite' guard (albeit barely any troops). You have to think about the political ramifications going forward. If no intervention were to occur (I'm talking purely aerial support) then Iraq will be fractured. It will be split into areas controlled by Jihadists like ISIS and the remaining sections of Iraq would have to rely on Iran which only strengthens their control of that region. I don't want Iran or Jihadists to control any part of Iraq.

Get the drones in there, bomb the Jihadists into the ground. This will re-strengthen Iraqi governmental control and their army will re-form (deserters will re-join).

Who are we kidding? We're talking about countries that won't even put in their supposedly required 2 % GDP for defense spending (NATO). They won't do crap. Even if they wanted to, they wouldn't know what the hell to do without the US telling them.

All except the UK. I'll give credit to the UK, but even they won't do anything unless we do. And we don't need to do anything outside of a brief air campaign, in my opinion.

If the UK had a stronger majority government I could see us doing something on our own regardless of US intervention. But we are stuck in a coalition and David Cameron lost his last battle for military intervention in Syria (which I am happy that he did lose) so he doesn't have much leeway unless the opposition supports. I think aerial strikes will receive cross-party support if Obama comes out in support of the same strategy.

I saw one of your posts earlier but didn't notice you were from the UK. What brought you to Vol land (at least through the Internet)? And are you rooting for England tomorrow or not? It's not clear what part of the UK you're from on your sidebar (or whatever the hell it's called).

Regarding your specific post here. I think the US is obligated to at least perform a week-long or so bombing campaign to keep the ISIS bastards at bay while telling the Iraqis to get their **** together. It's the very least we can do seeing as to how we're practically responsible for sending that nation down the ****ter.

Yeah course I'm supporting England tomorrow! I was brought to Vol land by my support for other TN sports teams, first the Titans and then the Preds. I then got into college football and was drawn more to the Vols and Vandy and the rest is history.

Forget about Vandy. Cornelius Vanderbilt was a complete *******, despite the "philanthropist" labels that are often slapped on him.

Anyhow, glad to have you on the Vol board. And good luck to England tomorrow. I'll be pulling for you all.

There is a really gruesome video out there (too gruesome to post here) of ISIS riding up and down the highway machine gunning anybody they see.

Totally random, senseless murder. These guys are pure evil.

If al-****ing cut your head off with a long knife-qaeda thinks you're too extreme, then you're too extreme. Honestly, it makes me sick to my stomach thinking about human beings having to live under the rule of this mess. I just can't imagine what that most be like.

I don't think there's anyway to put this Genie back in the bottle.

Well - looks like we had in custody up until 2009 the leader of ISIS. We turned him over to Iraq then (not sure what the reason was) and they ended up releasing him.

I'm not doubting you. Hell, you're probably right. But sources? Link a brother out!

Don't be so judgmental, remember, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Oh? A lot of these fighters are almost indistinguishable from the fighters McCain and crew have been clamoring for us to arm in Syria, in that they would eventually get a hold of said arms.

CBS This Morning reported ISIS is showing off the US Military Equipment they have due to members of Iraqi Army abandoning them and fleeing.

McCain was being interviewed yesterday by one of the news networks He said several time the surge worked, we had the war won. He suggested Obama send David Petraeus back to Iraq. It is past time for McCain to retire.
