Butch told Hyams and Wilkerson today that "Zach will join us soon"...said he has to do some things to help take care of some famil members.

Great news! Im really pulling for this kid!

Me too. Plus, another big talented body for OL depth. Just so much positivity around the program right now. Zach joining the program after what he's been through would add greatly to that.

"Soon" sounds like before summer. Hopefully he makes it before spring practice.

You would've thought if he is indeed coming and is being counted towards the 2016 class, CBJ would have said something about it at the Signing Day event.

Yeah, it's been a bit of a mystery with him. I just assumed that he wasn't gonna be a Vol at any point but was surprised when I heard Butch yesterday, which is why I came to this thread and posted what I heard. Not sure he will factor into the scholly number and not clear what Butch meant by "soon"....if I had to guess I'd say Zach will blue shirt so that he counts toward 2017. But that's clearly just a guess.

I doubt Butch will make any announcement on Zach Stewart until he is on campus. Until he is here, Butch doesn't want some knuckleheads driving up to Coalfield bothering him. On campus, they can somewhat control that. Not so easily up there.

Pardon my naievete, but who in the world is gonna drive to Coalfield to "bother" him? I could see a few phone calls from the media maybe?

I know it's got to be hard on Zach, but you know his mother would want him to pursue his dreams, either here at UT or whatever he desires to do.

Zach, we are behind you 100% on whatever decision you make......

IF [and that's a big if] the kid is having problems with depression or other things concerning supporting his family we need to be 100 percent in his corner. He'll play when hes ready if that's his decision.

It's been like 2 years since he's played a down of football.

I would doubt that he's been working out at the level of a college football player if he has been staying in shape.

I would think if he does show up that he would have an extremely tough hill to climb.

I've been rooting for this guy since he was first being recruited. He comes from a small school and I wanted him to be able to succeed at the SEC level.

It was terrible what happened with his family so that made me pull for him that much more, but I'm starting to think if he doesn't show up this summer then he's moved on from college ball. And that's okay, I just hope he does what's best for him.

Was just thinking about ZStew. Has any of this been confirmed? Will he surprise us in the morning or enroll in summer?

Just to be honest, I was kind of hoping the "big announcement" at the O&W game would be about him.

Just did not say it because I didn't want to jinx it.

Zack has still been working out at a gym called Maxed Out, in Oak Ridge, and has supposedly been able to keep most of his elite strength. One of his high school coaches isn't optimistic about him ever paying again though. It is a shame if he does not, I was pulling for the kid..

KB, with our fan base? I know better than, and have met too many knuckleheads to underestimate them. There are some nuts out there. Some might be well meaning, but still nuts. I could tell stories, but a few folks might be tired of me writing too much. :ermm:   :whistling:

Would odds of that happening be low? I will give you that. Is it zero? In this society? Best to not give out too much info.

We have a lot of depth now.. So no pressure to succeed this year

That is true. But if Zach could manage to be a part of this, and if this team is as special as many here hope?

Not only could it help him get through the grief, but it would give the players one more guy to rally around as a team. Someone when they get down they can look to and get up for.

Almost 2 years without taking a snap will be tough to overcome. Hopefully he can prove many wrong, but I don't think he's going to be able to compete at the SEC level. But I didn't think he was all that to begin with.

This is my thinking too... I just see it being really hard to take that long off and be at a sec lineman level... I hope he can but see it being really had for him

This too... I thought he was good as I'm from the same County just didn't think he was good enough to make a difference at tn but obviously I was wrong then... But now I just see it being too long away from the game for a come back hopefully he shows me I'm incorrect
