Is Zach expected to try to (re)join the team this Jan. or this summer? I'm sure this Christmas had to be tough for him, but was just curious if anyone had heard his plans.. I want to see this kid in orange living out his dream! He is a road grader for sure!

I have no specific knowledge, but if he's not enrolled so far can't he take a redshirt in 2016? If so, then being a summer 2016 enrollee instead of a Jan 2016 enrollee wouldn't be a huge deal.

I really thought Zach would be in running for the RT spot by next fall, if he hadn't greyshirted (or whatever they classified him as). The kid is a hoss, and has the prototypical frame and athleticism of a stellar OT, and he performed very well in a number of camps.

I hate it for the kid, but I'm sure his mom would want him to play...knowing that was his passion. If he enrolls next month, he'll have a chance to make a case for himself at RT, but if he waits until the summer or fall, it will be a redshirt year, no doubt.

I saw it posted on a thread a few weeks ago that he's supposed to enroll in the fall...but it was 50/50 as to whether he would ever enroll at all.

I feel bad for him, I lost my dad at the same age zach is, he was 47 years old.

I did as well. My dad was 42. It's tough to lose a parent at any age, I suppose.

I found out about my dad minutes after walking off stage at my HS graduation. The year that followed was a rough one, to say the least.

I feel for Zach and his family, and I understand why he would want to take some time. I hope he finds the will to get back out there and keep playing, more for himself than anything else.

I was told by very reliable (Coalfield) sources that he will enroll this summer. He would still have a redshirt year (if needed) plus 4 years since he was not enrolled.

This is good news, maybe it will also help him get through that horrible deal he had happen

So if ZS starts in 2016 does that reduce the number of players that can be added in the upcoming signing period or can he be counted forward or backward? I've never figured out all of these different shirt colors and limitations of numbers.

Maybe it's a wash... by not enrolling in 2015 that frees up a scholarship in 2016 that he then takes. ???

Well, could be right...for now. I assure you if this kid wants to come back Butch will be there with open arms.
Just hate it for the young man to go through something so traumatic.

GO VOLS!

he enrolls in January or in the summer he counts as one of the 2016 class. why they are only taking 21 newby's. if he happened to not come on the team then they could go 22. be no forward counting this year to 17 class.

Was just thinking about ZStew. Has any of this been confirmed? Will he surprise us in the morning or enroll in summer?

I don't know when he's supposed to return, but on WNML today I heard that UT is counting his scholarship as part of the 2016 total.

That's awesome if true. That has to mean Butch has no doubt he'll be coming this season.

Jimmy Hyams did report he is coming back and will count against this year.

If the rumors are true that we cooled on Dickerson, this may be the reason.

If we really did cool on Dickerson, I seriously doubt ZS is the reason. No disrespect to Zach but Landon is a blue chip 5 star, star in the making prospect. Zach would be more of a project, having played at a very small school against little competition. Plus the year layoff is going set his development back at least 2 years.

Landon's level of competition would be suspect as well. Cant coach size and athletic ability, but hes not necessarily playing the toughest level of competition in North Carolina.

I'm glad to hear that he plans to enroll in the summer. It's also a nice gesture for Butch to let the young man take time to grieve and be with his family. We always need guys on the OL.

If he has been working out or anything on his own I don't know that it sits him back 2 years. He's going to still have a lot to learn but physically maturing a year should be beneficial, if nothing but from growing into himself standpoint. I hate the reason he had to miss out. He is to young to have to go thru something like that.

Working out on your own is one thing but being in an elite Division1 S&C program is quite something else. He'll need a year just to get into playing shape and probably another developmental year for things like technique, learning the offense, etc.

I hope this young man finds the strength to pursue his dream.

It will be a very hard road. Being out of football and serious training for a yr isn't working out on your own. Not close. I wish him well.
