Is/was Bruce getting a little Cocky?

I'll take your post seriously when Bruce has a losing season. Until then, I will laugh at this one just as hard as I did your attempt to blame him for the Lady Vols getting slapped around on their home floor by Duke. Maybe you should critique Queen Pat.

He does make a valid point. I beleive Fulmer was getting quite a bit of criticism before his lone loosing season. I personnally dont think eithr of them deserve it.

I think it is easy to see his kind of energy and enthusiasm as cockiness. But 'cocky' has a disengenuous undertone to it, as though it were a put on.
I think Pearl genuinely loves the game and coaching and the school, and that just spills over with him. These are good, make that great, qualities to find in a coach. I hope he never loses his emotion. It is honest, and current as well as future players can see that. Kids see right through the fake stuff very quickly...

Pearl in 1 year after inheriting a program which no one even thought about lead the Vols to a 2 seed in the tourney. Even w/o last year I would be happy the way basketball is improving.

He might be a little bit cocky, but I think it is offset by the fact that he clearly can also make fun of himself when circumstances call for it. Some might say he's a bit of a showboat, but I personally think he's clever and entertaining.

Bruce Pearl is the man!!!!! Any coach that would have his shirt off, painted orange, and supporting his school is alright with me. I just hope big Phil doesn't get the same idea.

Come on, you know that fired Dukie up.As far as PS goes,I'd say if she fails to win at least one national championship while Parker is there,I'd consider it a failure.

I have said in other posts, quit getting your expectations so high, you will only be disappointed. It's only been one year. Give Bruce a chance utfantilidie. P.S. It's seeding, not seating:)

Just in case anyone hasn't noticed yet, everyone is outplaying us in the SEC now.So we can't critique Pearl but we can constantly ride Fulmer?

I've wondered the same thing, but I don't think comparing Pearl's vs. Fulmer's performance through the same microscope is fair. Bruce has been here for 1 1/2 seasons, Fulmer has been part of the coaching staff for 20 or so years. Bruce can use Lofton's injury as an excuse because there aren't 85 scholarship basketball players on the sidelines.

the bball team definitely has a lack of depth and is in desperate need of a 6'10" 280lb big man like Greg Oden.

What I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is that Pearl said before the season started, before conference play started and repeated it since, that this team is not the same as last years team and that we would have to fight hard for every win. He has always known the holes in this team and has tried to warn fans not to get their expectations unrealisticly high... did it work, it doesn't appear that way. You are not cocky when you are constantly trying to appeal to everyone that your team is going to have a tough road and begging for fan support. How can you even come up with that thought?

Remember 2005 football season and you'll remember Fulmer. Even Vandy scored MORE points than UT...and remember the Outback Bowl?

I guess I'm just a bit perturbed, going from a possible 2 seating to a bubble team.

That might have something to do with losing one of the best players in the country. Pearl has taking a team that was bad, and made it into something good. Give him another year or two of recruiting, and the sky is the limit.

Fulmer, well he inherited a top ten program, made it top five, and now it is barely a top 25 program.

I love this team, but did you really think that a 2 seed was really a realistic goal. I can remember many injuries taking out a star player and we stumbled afterward, any team would, especially playing on the road in the SEC.

I was surprised at how high we were seeded last year.We have beaten some great teams this year and should have beaten Ohio State there.I just hope we kick Kentucky's Bluegrass butt today!
