Is UT planning any type of tribute or moment of silence on Saturday in honor of Charlie Kirk's assassination?

I saw that the Yankees had a short moment of silence at the Wednesday night game which was pretty classy and was hoping we might do the same tomorrow. I saw that he was a big Oregon Ducks fan and was hoping they might do it as well but they're on the road this week.

I do but the circumstances are a bit different. They were killed by a mentally ill schizophrenic that was convinced he was doing a favor for Tim Walz.

Both are tragedies but they aren’t quite comparable. The mental health of the perpetrator does make a difference, similar to the man who tried to kill Ronald Reagan.

I think there is a difference between being mentally ill to the point of not being completely legally culpable and being just a screwed up person.

At this point, there’s no way to know his motives or political beliefs. A Guardian article quoted a friend as saying that Robinson was far left. The only issue is that this friend hasn’t seen him in years, so things could have changed since then. Also, so far there’s nothing to support the idea that he was a hardcore Trump supporter other than a tweet from David Shuster who apparently is the only journalist in the world who got that scoop.

The problem is you start drawing lines that others might take issue with. For example, the shooter here is reported to have become politicized recently. But also he was a directionless guy who wanted to make his mark. See eg the guy who shot at Trump in Pennsylvania.

Mentally ill ? Disturbed? Desperate to have meaning ?

Other than an office holder, I dont think such honors are wise. Its a never ending debate.

Kirk stands for what universities should be instead of what they’ve become. If they do a tribute fine, if they don’t fine. Nobody is comparing him to anyone in Minnesota that’s for sure.

And that's a very partisan take. A tribute to him would be an inappropriate endorsement of his political views. It could also cause extra work for security from resultant kerfuffles..
