Is UGA About to Experience the Pain and Disappointment Experienced by UT in 2005?

Is UGA headed for a major collapse?

The Dawgs seem to have lots of preseason hype and talent, but lots of character issues as well. Are they going to weather the storm and persevere, or are they too far gone from reading their own press clippings and buying into the hype? Or is it apples and oranges?

Wachoo think?

Nope it might be dissappointing but it wont be 5-6 dissappointing. They'll lose two or three games more than likely though.

My question is, once the Dawgs lose a game or two (which would be completely understandable), does the media turn on them? When do reporters start asking questions about whether the "distractions" created by so many player arrests in the offseason are contributing to the underachievement? If the reporters do start asking those kinds of questions, does it create additional stress for the players and compound the problem?

I mean, these kids think they are on the fast track to the BCS title game, and they are correct... in a way. Unless they do something highly remarkable, they are headed for disappointment. If so, it will be a testament to Mark Richt's leadership if UGA doesn't really fall apart.

If they lose one game it does not matter. Any team in the SEC with one loss is almost assured a spot in the championship game. Two losses and I think the bandwagon would come to a grinding halt.

I agree that an early loss (to SC for instance) could send this team into a tailspin.

That's the thing about "The Media" in the age of the internet. They need news, and news is almost never just facts. News is stories, and stories have angles. The obvious angle for a 2-loss UGA team is "what happened to all that potential?"

I had the same thoughts when I saw this article. I don't think they blow it as bad as UT did in 2005, but I can see them losing 3 to 4 games this year pretty easily.

I don't see a complete flop...I see them losing 3-4 games tops...but with the amount of hype they have gotten that would be a huge disappointment for them

They've got too much experience to completely fall apart. They'll probably lose a couple just due to the schedule, but I wouldn't consider that a meltdown.

The standard for Geo is a NC game, anything else will be seen as underachieving and you can bet your coonskin caps both the media (local and national) as well as the fans will be on them and the character issue will be first on the list with Stafford and Richt getting their share of blame. I see a 2 loss season, possibly 3. Hope we are one of their losses, kind of a dagger in their heart when it looks like they are in the catbird seat.

I am not looking at them going 5-6, but with the expectations they have, not winning it all is going to be disappointing. Which is fine with me. I seriously doubt they win the SEC either.

I totally agree. To be consistent, two losses should only be considered a 'meltdown' if CPF is the coach.

I'm going to say wat i've been sayin. Either UF, UT, or UGA are going 8-4 and i have a feeling right now it's uga.

absolutely...especially considering their schedule.

the purported "bowl game momentum" phenomenon will once again be refuted

only 2 Ls this season, and I think VolNation will be relatively happy, unless they're similar in nature to the two thrashings we had in conference last season. If we're treated like that again, meltdowns absolutely should ensue.

i think this depends on what you think about CMR.......

it's been a while since GA has had this big of a target on its chest......it'll be interesting to see how they handle it.

I mean, they're no. 1 for cripe's sake. everyone will want to beat them even more than usual.

throw the character issues in there, and the possibility exists for a meltodwn season......but not 6-6 type meltdown.....8-4 type meltodown....

Mark my word.. UGA will lose 4 or 5 games this season.. UT, FLA, LSU, Auburn and maybe Arizona St.... I'd be willing to bet they lose atleast 4 of those games this season.. Auburn will be looking for revenge at home this season against the puppies

I doubt they lose, but I expect them to struggle with USCe again as well

They WON'T win a game...well maybe the Ga Southern game but after that, mark it down, C Michigan will SHOCK them. CM QB had a Heisman like season last year and they are poised to pull the BIG upset in Athens. By the time we roll in it will be mop up duty.
