Is Trey Smith returning?

Rookie minimum is what, 480k per year? That's pretty good, but he stands to make a lot more.

With his elevated risk of a sudden career-ending situation, I am hoping he is able to cash out ASAP. If he chooses to come back, I just hope it's 100% his choice and no one pushed him into that. He's obviously super intelligent and well-grounded, so I have no doubt he'll do what's best for him and his.

Derek Henry has non contact all week. Then plays on Sunday. It can be done.
NFL should do that with every RB to preserve their career. Henry just needs to practice the plays. He's not going to get better as a runner. He's already at the top of his game.

To my knowledge he hasn't said one way or the other yet.

If he is projected high in the draft (he certainly has the body and skills to be) he should go to the NFL and get paid while he can. I just don't how teams will react to his health condition. He wasn't practicing with contact here. Would NFL teams let him do that? Doubtful.

Many teams may want to see him go 2 years without any blood clot issues before they throw a pile of cash at him. When he is 100 percent healthy he is the best Offensive linemen in the country. He is one of those rare talents that could have gone straight from high school to the NFL if rules would have allowed it.

He indicated that he was focusing on Tax Slayer Bowl and nothing else............well, nothing public. It will all depend on his NFL clinical review, they might want him to play another year, or sign some kind of waiver because of the blood clots. Risk like these can be tricky.

Selfishly I hope he comes back, but I believe if he is given the slightest chance to be drafted he will be gone.

I think everyone is off the wagon about Trey. The NFL history is that 1 guard gets drafted in the 1st round. I see Trey rated at the 4th to 8th best guard. I think he is top 5 guard for sure. NFL values OTs much higher than guards. IMHO based on the facts above, he is not going 1st round this year, 2nd is a toss up based on team needs and how they rate him, and I don't see him slipping past 3rd. Fulmer used to say 1st round or even top 15 you go. Big difference $$ between 1st and 3rd. Research showed me $9M from average 1st round to 3rd round in total contract $$. $12M vs $3M.

In this day and age, that's what should be always done with running backs.

In season? Maybe. Preseason? If they are that fragile, trade em and sign a lesser known back that has something to prove.

Of course they do have to prove themselves first. After that proof has been furnished, a large amount of contact in preseason work is pointless.

II thought we were talking about him as a high round draft pick since he is not likely to leave early if he isn't. Trey showed this season he could control it and there already is a precedent.

In this case, a precedent means an undrafted player with a history who got drafted with the teams aware of a PE history. Not a past or current player who got diagnosed by the team doctor.

OK, Ivan, name the precedent player, instead of expressing your imagined one.

.
Not before the final roster is posted. If that RB is no contact for an injury? Sure. But otherwise? That is how you tell the difference the prima donnas and the future stars.

A quote from Peyton Manning.
people need to stop comparing everyone to Peyton coming back. Manning had so many factors different to his decision than a player like Smith.

Peyton could afford to return for his senior year. I don’t know Trey Smith’s family or their financial background (none of my business anyway), but the Manning family had the financial resources that a lot of kids don’t have. A lot of kids who leave early don’t have a real choice because one injury is all it takes and not only do they lose potential millions, but to provide for extended family.

To me if he could prove that he can remain healthy another season he could vastly improve his draft stock. From what I’ve ready recently he’s between rounds 3-5 in the draft. I think he has another solid year and does great in the combine he could potentially be a top 20 pick.

I hope the Steelers can grab him in the 2nd round. We traded our 1st rounder next year for Minkah Fitzpatrick, but we're going to need to get a replacement for Ramon Foster, who is getting a little long in the tooth. Trey Smith would be perfect, hope he's still on the board when the Steelers make their 1st selection.

No way there are 3 more college guards better than Trey Smith. If there are any rated higher it’s due to Trey’s past medical issues dragging down his rating. If those issues are behind him then it’s very possible he’s a 1st round draft choice. Guess we’ll see soon. Best of luck to him and I hope he gets paid!

Same thing as a Bears fan. Thought we were ok on the line BEFORE the season. Interior was garbage. We get Oakland’s second and Pace isn’t afraid to trade up.

If guards are so undervalued then would he really improve his draft stock much by staying another year? Maybe by going another full year without any health problems? I don't know.
