Is Trey Smith returning?

He hasnt been a 1st round pick in any mock drafts that I've seen. He is rated as a top 10 guard in the draft by Kiper and McShay. My guess if he goes hes a 2nd or 3rd round pick. If he comes back and stays healthy and has a good year he's probably a top 10 or 15 pick next year. Whatever he decides I respect it and wish him the best of luck
He was # 10 pick in one very early in the season - of course it had Fromm as # 1 and thats changed bigtime -- I think it was Yahoo Sports

I think Trey makes no decision until after the bowl game. I believe in my heart he wants to stay another year and the bowl experience along with team potential for next season will play into the decision heavily.

That said though, I agree with most others. If he is being projected first round or high second he needs to get the money, play in the league a few years, and come back as the best O line coach UT has ever seen.

To my knowledge he hasn't said one way or the other yet.

If he is projected high in the draft (he certainly has the body and skills to be) he should go to the NFL and get paid while he can. I just don't how teams will react to his health condition. He wasn't practicing with contact here. Would NFL teams let him do that? Doubtful.

Many teams may want to see him go 2 years without any blood clot issues before they throw a pile of cash at him. When he is 100 percent healthy he is the best Offensive linemen in the country. He is one of those rare talents that could have gone straight from high school to the NFL if rules would have allowed it.
For the 29th time, JP has stated that Trey is basically been on an NFL practice schedule. Where the hell does everyone think millionaires are going to go beat each other up every day. They do not practice like you think.

My opinion is he should stay. Show the NFL that he has played for 2 years with no issues. That would also allow him to finish his degree so he's set up for after football also. But that's my opinion, will be happy for him no matter what he chooses.

If he decides to do what’s best for him and his family and make millions of dollars as opposed to playing another year not making millions of dollars, then he’ll be dead to me.

People just don’t understand the concept of Opportunity Cost. He’s only got so many years to play football period. He can either spend another of those years playing for free, or making millions. That is really the binary choice. Anyone would be an absolute moron to come back.

I think there is a player playing for the Chargers (?) that is playing with a similar condition.

That was Russel Okung but I think he's been in the league 10 years and returned to play on their playoff run. It says something but a little different than drafting a player knowing.

I saw this mock too. If he played a whole season and kept up to his abilities, he'd go top ten. Assuming he is cleared, I think he is one kid that would lose a lot of money by going straight pro this year. He comes back next year and anchors this OL, he's back in the top-ten discussion. This year, I believe he'd go fifth or later, if he went at all.

I am not sure it is a Chargers, but yeah, I heard about some player in the league going through that. But I am pretty sure he was diagnosed after he was drafted.

I have seen multiple mock drafts with him going to the Steelers with their first pick in the draft which is the 2nd round. That is a lot of money to turn down not knowing what your status will be a year from now. The medical staff has done an amazing job keeping him healthy to play. The medical staffs in the NFL are only going to get better. I think he leaves. He will be missed.

He was in the league for about 10 years diagnosed with pulmonary embolism Summer 2019. He was not drafted with the disorder but is going through that this year. He is 31 YO & back with the team in November but now listed as out with a groin injury. This may be the end for Okung.

II thought we were talking about him as a high round draft pick since he is not likely to leave early if he isn't. Trey showed this season he could control it and there already is a precedent.
The first I heard about the precedent is on this thread. I’ll leave that up to the NFL experts. As it stands, Trey would be a first round pick if healthy. I don’t see him returning.

He's not getting a first round grade. I would agree with you if the money was there.
