Is this the year we begin...

Yes. I am very optimistic about this team. We're Tennessee. We'll be back.

The first domino that screwed us over was firing Fulmer. Everything else has been a direct result of that first move.

People that were on the fire Phil bandwagon should probably hide their heads until we win the East.

You know what direction this thread is going to go after making a post like this

I remember watching UT thumping lsu two or three times in the 90s, when they were really BAD, and thinking: Damn, it's hard to believe that a university in one of the most recruiting-rich state in America could fall into a decade-long slump. I also realized that if our recruiting ever went south, that the same would happen to us, and of course it did. We will need to show marked improvement this year or Dooley probably will be sacked. And that means we need to beat some of our prominent SEC opponents. If we lose to florida, georgia and bama again, it could be curtains for dooley--which would be doubly bad since he has just replaced almost the entire staff!

Is that you Phil? Let's see....Phil went almost a decade without winning the east....and had horrific records against saban richt spurrier and miles...yes it was such a bad idea to get rid of a coach that hadn't won anything in 10 years

Oh yeah...you know that whole first national championship for Tennessee in 40 years is something that should be ignored...but yeah....

Sometimes you reap what you sow....****ing deal with it. Y'all just made a STUPID STUPID decision...and we've suffered the consequences of the idiots such as yourself for the last 3 years. But yeah...I'll forgive you as long as we get back on track and start winning again. :peace2:

The turn around actually started in 2009. Lincoln's missed field goal against "O Bama" caused us to not have an 8 - 5 season.
In 2010, we should have had a record of 8 - 5, but the referee's cost us the two games.
In 2011, we should have had a record of 10 - 3. Inuuries cost us the game against Florida, USC and UGA.
Poor performance cost us the Kentucky game and a chance to play Wake Forest in the bowl game.
We are ever so close to getting past the hump.

You are blind, correct??

REFS did not cause UT to have 58 men on the goal line against LSU. They also enforced the proper rule against UNC.

Injuries did not cost us the UK game, the FLa game, the USC game, and the Ga game. The contributed, but were not the deciding factor.

Please stop looking to lay blame on other factors...

One thing that all these teams have over Tennessee...they are all in very fertile recruiting areas. LSU and Florida could only get players from their state and still be good programs, probably great. That makes a huge difference. Bama and LSU did have Saban, who is the best recruiter and Coach.

Its tougher now than it was 10 years ago but they can't piss and moan...go get em some talent.

Refs don't put 13 people on the field against LSU....Da'rick cost us the USC game...not Injuries*. And you can't assume a win against Florida from someone going down on the first drive. You are really stretching for the best on these. And when you lose to Kentucky with a WR playing QB we haven't begun to turnaround....but that said....I support the OP's claim for this year being the turnaround year.

And we have the highest recruiting budget in the nation. The talent pool isn't an excuse. We should be recruiting just as well as they are, and nothing about our recruiting history says we haven't.

i will the following question.....

of the teams on the 2012 schedule, where does tennessee have an advantage on the offensive and defensive lines?

that's cute and all. and you can duck the question all you want.

but, you just saw two teams go the entire season, with mediocre qb's (at best) and mediocre passing games (at best), and beat the ever living crap out of everyone except each other because they were so clearly dominant on the line of scrimmage.

so, the question is just a tad relevant

About half of them. Maybe close to a stalemate with a couple others. 7, 8 win team at best next year. Sadly... Some around here would jump through hoola hoops for that.

I think we are on our way back up, but it may be a slower climb than many are ready for. You never know though. This years schedule is favorable for 9 wins if everyone is healthy, we learn to run the ball, and the new defensive scheme sinks in fast. The following year could be as good or better.

Winning that much would keep CDD and staff around longer and recruiting should explode then.

It's a chain reaction I think.

Let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
