Our Turnaround?

Was watching The Zone this morning and an excellent point was made that not so long ago LSU and AL had their respective programs in the crapper.

In the 90's LSU was 53-58 with 7 loosing seasons out of 10!

AL from 2000-2007 was 52-47 and I believe they hired one coach that they had to fire before he even coached a down!

Well we all know where these programs are now.

The point is that things looked as bad or even worse for these programs then the gloom and doom her, and I think (hope) that we may finally be beginning our turnaround this year.
If Bray and Hunter et al can stay healthy and with the returning experience on D, and some solid coaches in place, hard to not see a pretty good turn this year and the near future.

I know DL OL and kicking game (argh) are still big questions, but I see alot of positive on offense and defense, with more experience on both sides of ball then we have had in a couple years!

Sorry to make a positive post. Don't be too mad at me DrunkJohnny. :) Flame away in the great Volnation tradition.

I agree with you for the most part. I think our passing offense will be very good with a healthy Bray and Hunter to pair with Rogers but I am skeptical if we will be able to run the ball well when needed. Hopefully our young line will be much improved this season but I am not sure Lane is a guy capable of putting fear into opposing defenses. Things are definitely looking brighter though with the staff changes, hopefully we are heading upwards.

Go Vols!

LSU and Alabama both got out of the crapper by hiring Nick Saban.

That's not going to be an option for Tennessee, so the comparison might not be all that apt.

The turn around actually started in 2009. Lincoln's missed field goal against "O Bama" caused us to not have an 8 - 5 season.
In 2010, we should have had a record of 8 - 5, but the referee's cost us the two games.
In 2011, we should have had a record of 10 - 3. Inuuries cost us the game against Florida, USC and UGA.
Poor performance cost us the Kentucky game and a chance to play Wake Forest in the bowl game.
We are ever so close to getting past the hump.

It's too early to tell if this year is the year that the team begins to re-emerge. Injuries derailed the team last year for what should have been at least a bowl team. Injuries are a concern, and while we have depth now, some of it isn't necessarily quality depth at certain positions. Also, this coaching staff needs to get aspects of the offense and defense going, namely the running game and pass rush respectively. With that many X-factors, it is difficult to predict exactly how this team will perform. I will say this; the potential is there for nine wins. Unfortunately, nobody's ever won with potential alone. Execution is the key ingredient.

If you beleive this is the year we turn it around, then you would agree with me when i say "this is the year we turn it around" right?

Yes, 2012 is definitely the year that we begin our ascent to Tennessee's 34th National Championship....(I learned to count in Tuccaloser)

This year is better than ever to turn it around.

We should end the streak against Florida, win all non-conference games, handle Vandy and KY...then if we can win one out of GA or USCjr then....well, it could be a great season.

It is the year we do start in the right direction....2011 was the result of the Fulmer = Kiffin fall out in recruiting....2012 the roster is stock with better than average recruits that will continue to Point that arrow in the upward direction...

Yes. I am very optimistic about this team. We're Tennessee. We'll be back.

The first domino that screwed us over was firing Fulmer. Everything else has been a direct result of that first move.

People that were on the fire Phil bandwagon should probably hide their heads until we win the East.

there was an article on some other site, i believe it was one where mods dont like us to link to, not bleacher... that broke down our incredible bad luck with our best recruits not panning out... since 2007 i believe they said... weve had something like 34..... 4 or 5 star recruits.. only four of them ever played significant minutes... so we had a 3 to 4 year stretch where nothing good ever came our way on the recruiting front.. dd has had to address that.. i think he is

I don't think you can call our O line young anymore.

Depends on whether you think Dooley can coach at an elite level. I've not seen much to suggest that he can, but it's put up or shut up time for him.

When you want to fix a problem it has to get worse before it gets better. Phil had become lazy and wanted to point to what he had done instead looking to the future and what we were going to do. I also haven't seen anyone looking for a head coach even sneeze in his direction.

This probably says more about Phil than any other comments.

And on behalf of all of North America, thank you for your avatar!

Is that you Phil? Let's see....Phil went almost a decade without winning the east....and had horrific records against saban richt spurrier and miles...yes it was such a bad idea to get rid of a coach that hadn't won anything in 10 years
