Is this the worst fan reaction since Sciano?

No. I think people are just disappointed because it’s been so bad for so long, people want a guarantee of a sure thing.

And that just doesn’t exist.

How this will turn out, I don’t know. I do think he knows offense and when things settle down, Tennessee will score points and have an entertaining product.

But, who wants to hear they are going to need to wait 4 more years?

At the least it won’t be awful to watch. My biggest concern is recruiting. He needs to put together a staff that can recruit or else he will likely fail

Agree, but I don't see it taking 4 years to get the offense going. He did well with a lot less talent at Mizzou. I don't see us winning the East next year or two, but I also think we will be much better on offense then we have been in a long time and as you said entertaining to watch. I have no idea how it will turn out, but should be fun.

We're in a much worse situation now than we were in 2017.

Back in 2017, Texas A&M/Florida/Tennessee were all looking for coaches. We were all (according to 247 composites) somewhat similarly talented (Tenn was #12, Florida was #15, A&M was #17). A&M had to spend $7.5mil to bring in a top-tier coach, Florida had to spend $6mil to bring in Mullen. Tennessee? We did what we always do and scraped the barrel with $3.8mil going to Pruitt.

For reference, Bama spent $6mil/year on Saban in 2007.

Now? We're #15 in composite talent and we are losing at least 1 5* to draft (Smith) and we're definitely losing 1 5* to transfer (Morris). We're also losing at least 5 4* players to transfers (Chandler, Gray, JG, Peterson, Toot). So the transfer landscape is worse, but at least our 2021 class is better than our 2018 class was.

With unknown NCAA response looming, it's nigh impossible to get a top-flight coach to come here unless you really open the purse strings... which I'm not sure UT was willing to do in 2021 and it certainly wasn't in 2017, 2012, 2010 and 2009.

A really good take. Thanks for the common sense, which is something sorely lacking.

Only delusional folks are upset. Kiffin/Freeze/Campbell/Fleck/Gus were never happening. Realistic candidates were Heupel/Napier/Chadwell/Elliot. Looking at the options I say we made a good choice. My pick has been Napier. Although I’m not upset with this hire at all.
The fact that we didn't even interview Chadwell is annoying though.

Is this the worst fan reaction since Schiano?
Well, that got us Pruitt and this is Pruitt's replacement. So it's our only reaction since Schiano, when it comes to a head football coach. It's not near that bad though. It reminds me of when we hired Butch. The meltdown over the GA ST loss last year, and UK this year was worse than this.

Not one of us can hire the head coach of Tennessee football. If we could there would be about 25 different head coaches at Tennessee. That would cost about $100 million per year. That fortunately will never happen. I'm all in on Josh Heupel.

Well we were told it will probably be someone who is not on everyone’s list.

Go look at everyone’s first list.........nope......he’s not on there.

This guy wasn't even on Danny White's list! He was literally down the hall!!

That's what ticks me off the most is we paid a guy all this money to bring in his buddy from the same school!

Unacceptable.
