Losing Kiffin. I remember hearing that Pete Carroll was jumping ship to the NFL and I knew at that moment was coming next. Miss him and wish it had worked out, but happy for any success he has elsewhere. Yep, I fall for strippers.

Well said Behr.

Look, anybody who’s been on here for awhile would likely remember that I was full-on Butch Jones in the beginning, was 100% for giving him a chance, would go to the mat arguing on his behalf......until he proved to me, without a doubt whatsoever in my mind, that he wasn’t the guy and that he no longer deserved the benefit of the doubt. And by the end, I was easily one of his biggest critics on here....went from a sunshine pumper to a negavol within the span of 2.5 to 3 years. And nothing in his history/career whatsoever that suggested he had the ability and the coaching chops to meet the lofty expectations we all have for Tennessee football.

So I’m 150% definitely gonna give Pruitt at least the same leash and wiggle room I just gave PT Barnum....especially since he does indeed have the proven ability to coach and get his players playing at a consistent, championship level. Gotta do that as a head coach now, I get that, but there’s tons more reasons to believe that Pruitt and the staff he’s put together are gonna have light years more success than Jones and his MAC level guys. We’ll see.

Yea, I could say a lot of this myself, except I got caught up in not wanting to fire Butch until we had the new AD in place, which meant giving him 2017.

Turns out, well, I'm not really sure, but that's a different conversation that really doesn't matter.

Again on the "who knows", but having Phil as the AD is another exciting twist to all of this. I really am excited.

Potential is very much on our side.

I will be 65 come June 18th, and been following UT football since Doug Dickey was the coach. I have seen good seasons and bad seasons during that span of years. I have also seen every school in the SEC go through the same things we have. I don't know if their struggles were a result of one or two big money people or not, like Tennessee's was. I do know that Phillip Fulmer is orange to the core, and from appearances, it seems the power has been wrested away from the family in charge for the last ten years. I have to believe that he has hired someone he firmly believes will bring the program back to contending for championships. Making a bad choice in his first hire would reflect badly on his ability to run the athletic department. I know we are all a little skeptical after the debacles of the last ten years, but lets not doom Pruitt before he has even had an opportunity to show what he can do. I refuse to wallow in negativity like some posters on here seem so determined to do. Lets get behind the coaching staff and support TBO.

Agree. Times have been tough lately. But I try to be a positive person and look to the future. I will not walk around with a downer attitude. I'm behind Pruitt 100%. He's got a difficult challenge, but I think he will get it done. No negativity from me. My biggest concerns are players who don't want to work to be their best.

I have been following the Vols since 1966.

The last year or two of Bill Battle years felt much worse than this, as I recall.

A few seasons back we had to go with an OL with the undersized walk-on Sullins brothers -- and they were scrappers full of heart -- but we are better off than that right now.

Similarly, just a few seasons back, we played all year with just 3 DTs. We are better off than that right now.

I actually feel pretty good about us right now. Looking forward to the season.

The product we seek exists.
The barriers to seeking our objective have been numerous.
Hiring of Fulmer, Pruitt and his staff have addressed the insurmountably energy barrier...

See chart, its all there!
WGWDA... soon.

With a VFL for AD that picked our new HC, this is the time to be optimistic. The most depressing times are over with.

We just lost to KY, SC and Vandy in the same year. That's never happened before. Had we kept everything the same? Sure most depressing. But we didn't.

I met an Alabama fan and his family this morning and while he is glowing in their success, he expressed deep concern that Tennessee is going to take a huge step forward with CJP leading our VOLs. He thinks that CJP's staff is outstanding and that they will be able to restock our team with top quality football players who will play with intensity and dedication. He thinks we will be better that UGa and UF and challenge UA for the SEC and National titles in the very near further. I agree with his understanding of what is likely to happen at Tennessee. Therefore, I think this is a wonderful time to be a Tennessee fan and that the dark day will soon be replaced with Sunshine. I can hardly wait for this coaching staff to lead us for the next 15 or so years.

Hopefully I can't get any lower than after losing to a WR QB'ed horrible Ky. team. A bowl game was in sight and kids were so miserable they didn't even care. The whole Dooley era needed a high dose of prozac.

We just had our worst season ever.
We just had the worst coaching search ever.
Bama is rolling as usual. UGA has a real coach. UF hired a quality coach. Muschamp owns the Vols. Looks like we’re headed for 3rd or 4th in the East every season.

Has UT football ever been in a more depressing position? I’m almost 40 and have never seen our position in the landscape like this.

I don't know if college football would have any allure if it were as predictable as we make it out to be. The fan base seems to have battered vol syndrome, as if it's just in the cards that we are going to be bad because we were bad last season. But we have to have an audacity. That is the only way its going to change. How does the poem go? Rage against the night! Rage against the dying of the light!

Well the men’s basketball team was supposed to suck last season and ended up sharing the SEC Championship and made the SECT finals. So yeah, we don’t know for sure what will happen.
