2 losing seasons out of the last 4.

About to be 5 straight losses to Florida, most very ugly and noncompetitive. This Saturday could be record-breaking in spread.

About to be 3 straight losses to Bama, most noncompetitive, and 4 out of 5.

Vols just lost another game they should have won, at home, under a new and relatively unknown coaching staff.

Looking to 2010, Vols lose 4 OL starters, Eric Berry, and have only 1 returning QB, the same guy who can't beat out Crompton.

Ole Miss remains on schedule, and LSU rolls on in 2010.

Vols are trending well with 2010 recruiting, but Fla and Bama don't seem to be stepping back either.

This is my perspective this morning. Call it negative if you want, but it is what it is....reality. I'm not saying Kiffin cannot reverse all these trends, but those who believe he will are only basing that on blind faith at this point. I won't criticize those who do this, as they are just being good, supportive fans. But yesterday was a huge opportunity to show something tangible, particularly there on the goaline. I want to see something before I believe. For 6.5 million, this staff is capable of providing some proof.

My concern is how long is Kiff going to try and make a college qb out of JC? Makes more sense to start Stephens now especially if he is going to be the stopgap next year while we develop a young qb.

We don't have an offensive line and a QB yet. Those last two plays showed that. The problem isn't coaching it's the Jimmys and the Joes......from the looks of Bowling Green the last two weeks.....it wasn't Clawfense either!

That is a very negative view of yours, Duckhook. The Vols, as a whole, did not play badly yesterday. I felt as though discipline has been restored to a team which was sorely lacking last year. I didn't see the plethora of off-sides and false start penalties which plagued the FulmerVols over the last few years. Were some assignments missed? Sure, Janzen Jackson played out of position on one huge UCLA run but let's not forget he was a freshman. The missed blocked where Jacques McClendon whiffed on the Bruins DT and sent Crompton to his seat was troubling as well. The offense was anemic but only after Crompton proved to be UCLA's best twelfth man. The Bruins put nine in the box and shut down the Vol rushing attack. It hurt to have a loss to an opponent we all had rung up as a victory before opening kickoff. But, this one didn't sting as horribly as last year's Labor day night loss. Yesterday's loss was not a result of the coaching but rather the ineptitude of the AIM (automatic interception machine) under center. This was just game 2 and a 8-4 of 7-5 season is still in our sights. A more telling sign about the direction and the state of the Vol football program will not be just the wins and losses but also the overall improvement of teamplay and individuals alike. Better days are ahead Big Orange fans. We just need to be patient and give the Kiffin regime time.

That's easy. Sit him on the bench, give him a pencil and a notebook, and let him take notes while he watches a real college QB take over.

I know the Vols can win 7 plus games. I also know it will not happen with crompton behind center. Teams know he can't handle pressure, and they will put 8 in the box to stop the run. Give Stevens a chance I know he can make a difference. Gees he gave us the deep pass, something Crompton didn't until Kentucky, when the season was over. Stevens will make a difference to get the run going.

Damn guys lets get a grip! This was CLK 2nd game. This program will be back on top once this staff gets their players in, its a process so lets look to the future and stop dwelling on the past. Hes already said this morning that even after the loss yesterday that the recruits that were there were still hyped about the U of T!! Neyland is becoming the absolute blueprint for college stadiums which is attracting the recruits as well. Im down on yesterdays loss too and want to win now but lets not make it seem like we are going backwards. The future is bright in Knoxville and winning will come sooner than later. GO VOLS!!

The bottom will come next wk. i had my fire back as a tennessee fan before last nite. but once kiffin has some time to get his players in there it will get better. patience is the key...but i have always heard one player wont lose you a game. well in my opinion the defense played well enough to win we ran the ball pretty good as well. crompton put ucla in good field position with every INT. as well as the fumble and if he could hit an open reciever we have a td instead of a FG on our first drive. he makes us one dimensional because of his poor play i feel sorry for the guy i do and hope everything goes well after football but give me a break will this guy please just go away im tired of waistin my money and time tennessee football is a big damn deal to me im sorry thats just the way iam and if you think iam negative iam sorry but this is sad.
