Yes, I've come to see the significant value in playing one game like this a year.
Not for us. For us, it's a charity case. It's giving to the community, so to speak, to nearby smaller schools trying to build their program, or at least keep it financially afloat. For us, it's just an all-but-certain W, and the chance to help others.
But for the local smaller colleges and universities, the Tennessee Techs and Western Carolinas and UT-Chattanoogas of the world, it's a much-needed cash infusion. It helps them get ahead, or at least not fall behind.
Now, if you want to be really Machiavellian and see "farm school" status in it for us, as if UT-Chattanooga and Tech and TSU and the like are where we grow our future ADs and SIDs and the like, I'm not gonna stop you. I'm not sure that's a predictable thing on any recurring basis, but I won't stop you.
For me, it's just about helping a little brother or neighbor out.
It doesn't always have to be about 'what do WE get'...it can sometimes be about what we give, instead.
