Is there Really any upside to us playing Tenn Tech?

I have been pondering the whole scheduling FCS schools lately.

There doesn't seem to be an upside...Win? Well you should beat them. Lose? Well now, the whole program is doomed. Injuries? It sucks to lose players in games that really don't matter. Blowout? That is what it should be. Close Win? Your program is in trouble.

I do see the upside for the FCS schools. $$$$$$


I also do not think that a win vs an FCS school should be counted in bowl eligibility, but lately there are more bowls than bowl eligible teams...so I guess no changes will be forthcoming.

I agree. The only upside is helping a small in-state school make some money. I am still against it, but if it was out-of-state game (UGA vs Nicholls State) then I could see no benefit whatsoever.

There's a good chance we win this game. We need even more games like this on the schedule with how we've performed as of late.

If Tennesee lose to USCjr, UK, Mizzou and Vandy, there should be no bowling. Bowling is for people who beat Kentucky.

In times of mediocrity it should get you an extra win (therefore closer to bowl eligibility), it can boost the confidence of your players, and it allows younger players to get some reps

If the Vols lose to those teams enjoy the bowl now because it may be a while before the next.

People. It's the Homecoming game.

It's traditional to schedule the, umm, less challenging opponents for homecoming. Every college does it, AFAIK, unless they make a terrible misjudgment, or they have to change their schedule for some reason. My high school did it, ever so many decades ago. No one wants to get thumped at Homecoming.

For G*d's sake, lighten up.

Rest players who need extra time, money for the small school, experience for younger guys, and maybe get some rhythm back.

Got ramrodded by Auburn my Sophomore year. Tech is a far more desirable opponent.

When I was at UT we played top 10 teams for homecoming. Beat em too

Yes, Following the drama the team needs a chance to blow off steam and reunite. The young players need game reps. The VOLS win BIG HUGE.

Yes, IF, and that's a big if, UT can come out and dominate the first half and have a more than comfortable lead then, that gives QD and SJ valuable playing time in second 1/2. This year is not over but, never to soon to prepare for next.

With 8 conference games the 12th game is a cupcake game. It is what it is.

eh...i don't like the FCS scheduling either. but when we went to an 11 game reg season, and didn't change the # of conf games....you knew it was going to happen.

personally, i don't have an issue with them counting as bowl eligible wins.
