Is there hope? Urban Meyer???

I agree but he is not the best one possible. He is a stinking Gator Coach and a Buckeye.
Good grief, enough of this whiny "he coached the enemy and spanked our ass" bullsh!t. You don’t hire the guy because you like him. You hire the best, AVAILABLE person for the job and h they get the job done

Right, that one play overrides all his success, four times to natty championship game, multiple cinfetence titles. I get being pissed about his costing you a bet, but that should have no bearing on whether we want him as our coach.

Just goes to show that he's capable of incredibly poor decision making. I've never seen a decision like that from any head coach. Granted that doesn't define him but the idea that Tennessee would be getting Bob Stoops at his best and hungriest seems very unlikely to me. If he wanted to coach at all he'd still be at Oklahoma.

I'm all for Urban if he's willing to come here.

We're way too stupid to hire an Urban Meyer or Hugh Freeze.
There has to be a mid-major guy winning 8 or 9 a season that we'll hire next. We've done it a couple times then we went to an Assistant as the next choice. Were definitely against hiring anyone that has actually coached as a head coach and it has got to the point where most that have head coaching experience no longer want to coach here.

I think Urban Meyer is done with CFB. If he wanted to continue coaching, he would have stayed at Ohio State. He grew up in the area (i.e. is a fan) and had a monster there.

I don't know who Tennessee gets and that is the problem. I don't see a pick out there that will make Tennessee competitive. Perhaps we play in the mid-major ranks and grab the coach from Coastal Carolina or Louisiana. I don't know.

I don't see Pruitt leaving this year with the buyout.

If Stoops DIDN'T want to coach he wouldn't have coached in the XFL this year.
Id also take Urban over Stoops, but Stoops would be a great pick.

Get real? Ok, you’re not getting Urban Meyer. That’s the only thing real about this entire discussion.
That wasn't the point. I'm arguing with your assertion that Tennessee's ceiling would be 10 win seasons with an elite coach like Meyer. That is nonsense. Butch had 9 win seasons here and he was awful. With an elite coach, we are a playoff contender. Period.

Look, this is a Jerry Jones type situation. Our top folks want to win, but they want the credit for it and won't pay up and stand back and let the big hire di his job. Why have the Patriots won so much? Why has bama? Because they hire the best and then step back and let them do what they do.
Because they cheat

I agree, I don't particular care for Urban, however, I want him as our next coach cause he is a winner. We should never hire a coach just because he is likeable if he can't win. I want a winner, I would even take the former coach at Louisville, can't think of his name Patrino? Hugh Freeze, but I would take Urban over any of them. And yes he would come here for the right money. Any coach would for the right money.

Exactly, you hire people because they get the job done, not because they're the most likable and squeaky clean candidate.. Same goes for elected officials....
