why should we be saints? Can we not just get the coach that will help us win?
Let's just demand our next coach (whenever it happens) has a head coaching resume. Enough with the coordinators only proven winning Head Coach's should be looked at or we will never break this cycle of of bottom feeding.
Lane Kiffin has been fired from a quality program for ineffectiveness.Botch was a proven winner. Scott Frost, Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh, Ed O, Kiffin, all proven winners.

Ed Orgeron was fired by Ole Miss... not the same thing as USC, but still, he wasn't really a proven winner when hired by LSU.
Butch Jones had some success at Central Michigan and Cincinnati in 3 seasons, but in both places he had just followed Brian Kelly, who had left a full cupboard. Alas, Butch wasn't in either one of those places long enough to have to develop his signees.
The other guys you mentioned were proven winners from good places... so it does prove that finding the right fit is not an exact science and many programs struggle with that. Remember LSU and Georgia in the 90's and Alabama from 1997 to 2006? We are not the only ones who have a hard time finding the right coach.
Alabama's AD, Mal Moore, tried to hire Rich Rodriguez in 2006. He was with West Virginia at the time. Rich Rod turned them down and then Bama caught a whale. Meanwhile, Rodriguez went on to fail at Michigan.Great points. Some just want to think that hiring a proven winner automatically fixes things. Some think that there are Sabans and Meyers our there. The fact is like you said hiring a HC is not as simple as oh a proven winner? Now everything is fine.
I don't think hiring a proven winner automatically fixes things. I think it does a have a better chance though. Tennessee in its current state is not a job that is easy to learn on the job for. Sure, we could get lucky and hire an unproven guy who figures things out pretty fast. Thats what Sam Pittman at Arkansas looks like he's doing. Already has them playing well. But we need to go out and at least try to get some proven winners.Great points. Some just want to think that hiring a proven winner automatically fixes things.
