Is there hope? Urban Meyer???

God I wish people would just freaking stop already. We aren’t getting Freeze or Meyer. We are stuck with Pruitt at least until next year. Then if we fire him, it will be another coordinator hire.
If you know this, why do you even care what others entertain?

Is there any hope for Urban Meyer? No. Can’t believe it warrants this amount of discussion. Let’s not even get into the money discussion because that’s unimportant. Play Alabama, Florida and Georgia each year? Saban alone was enough to make him run from the SEC. If he comes back it will be a big program in a low competition conference.

why should we be saints? Can we not just get the coach that will help us win?

I wish. I’ve not seen any evidence that the people who make those decisions really care about winning all that much.

I’d love to be proven wrong this go around but it’s more likely we wait until USCe or Auburn hire the guys on the top of our board and we are stuck scrambling for another loser.

We're done paying Butch in Feb.

Good so that frees up some money, but if pruitt is fored there goes another one we have to pay in addition to whoever the current coach would be. I dont see us firing pruitt till his contract is up.

Let's just demand our next coach (whenever it happens) has a head coaching resume. Enough with the coordinators only proven winning Head Coach's should be looked at or we will never break this cycle of of bottom feeding.

Botch was a proven winner. Scott Frost, Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh, Ed O, Kiffin, all proven winners.

Lane Kiffin has been fired from a quality program for ineffectiveness.

Ed Orgeron was fired by Ole Miss... not the same thing as USC, but still, he wasn't really a proven winner when hired by LSU.

Butch Jones had some success at Central Michigan and Cincinnati in 3 seasons, but in both places he had just followed Brian Kelly, who had left a full cupboard. Alas, Butch wasn't in either one of those places long enough to have to develop his signees.

The other guys you mentioned were proven winners from good places... so it does prove that finding the right fit is not an exact science and many programs struggle with that. Remember LSU and Georgia in the 90's and Alabama from 1997 to 2006? We are not the only ones who have a hard time finding the right coach.

Phil wants the job again — he may name himself coach when he fires Jeremy - and bump his salary up a few million

Great points. Some just want to think that hiring a proven winner automatically fixes things. Some think that there are Sabans and Meyers our there. The fact is like you said hiring a HC is not as simple as oh a proven winner? Now everything is fine.

Alabama's AD, Mal Moore, tried to hire Rich Rodriguez in 2006. He was with West Virginia at the time. Rich Rod turned them down and then Bama caught a whale. Meanwhile, Rodriguez went on to fail at Michigan.

Sometimes, it just comes down to fortunate timing and some good luck. Tennessee has none.

I think we could get meyer if we absolutely sold out to land him. If we got a high ranking booster ...maybe even a guy like Peyton involved in the process and let him know we’re going for broke to land him amd that he could be viewed as a absolute savoior of our program it really could happen. He’d certainly be interested in hearing us out but he’d need to be sold. He’d need a huge money offer and he’d need to know that he would be absolutely revered if he were to win here. He’d also be able to stake his claim as at very least the second best coach of his generation if he could come here and succeed. And this program has talent. We’ll likely have a roster just outside the top 10 according to 247. And if we hold on to the majoret if this class That could improve. that’s the type mive that would make fulmer a legend. But he’ll almost certainly go down kicking and screaming fighting for Pruitt. That’s his guy in ever way. Not only was that his hire but Alamo Pruitt wants to win old school. Great offensive line and great defense. That’s all the fulmer hopes Tennessee could be. The game is so far past fulmer it’s not even funny. So instead of being the legend that win us a championship amd them have us a great coach...he’ll end up being the clown that allowed the program to full under his watch both as a coach and ad

Thats not why Fulmer would say no to him

Fulmer will NOT let someone come in hes threatened by and potentially show there a better coach

EXACTLY THIS!!!! I still think Fulmer secretly hope that Pruitt gets canned and he can slide in for a few games to weasel a way back in.

I don't think hiring a proven winner automatically fixes things. I think it does a have a better chance though. Tennessee in its current state is not a job that is easy to learn on the job for. Sure, we could get lucky and hire an unproven guy who figures things out pretty fast. Thats what Sam Pittman at Arkansas looks like he's doing. Already has them playing well. But we need to go out and at least try to get some proven winners.

Bob Stoops is what the doctor ordered for Tennessee. He turned around a flailing Oklahoma program and comes from the Dan Snyder coaching tree. Perfect guy for a program rebuild
